I found these YouTube statistics online. It has more than 2 billion views per day which is almost twice the prime-time audience of America’s three major broadcast networks combined. More video is uploaded to YouTube in 60 days than all three U.S. networks created in 60 years.
Wouldn’t it be something if the church could generate that kind of interest? Perhaps the church could learn something from YouTube.
* YouTube recognizes that each human being has something of value to offer — a unique perspective. They know that everybody has something to say, a song to sing, a message to get across; and the ability to communicate it. They don’t try to control the content of their site, but allow people to use their own judgment in what they post. Perhaps the church should value people enough to trust them to have something important to say.
* A YouTube slogan is “Broadcast Yourself.” They give anybody the opportunity to make and upload videos; to broadcast their ideas and creativity to the world. The church, however, tends to only allow one person to share his ideas, week after week, and requires everybody else to listen. Perhaps churches could begin to invite people to “broadcast yourself.”
Actually, the church can outdo YouTube. YouTube allows people to post recorded videos, however, the church could allow people on Sunday mornings to present actual, eyeball-to-eyeball, encouragement, songs, prayers, testimonies, and instruction. They could call it, Sunday Morning Live.
Will this idea work? You bet! It works for YouTube, why wouldn’t it work for a church? Would you like to experience Sunday Morning Live where people openly share what God has put on their heart? It is happening in Nashville, Tennessee, Sundays at 10:45am, at 225 Berry Street, 37207 at The Salvation Army Berry Street Worship Center.
Come and see the excitement that the YouTube idea produces in church. You’ll be glad you did!
