3 ducks, 2 buzzards & some God thoughts

3 ducks & 2 buzzards . . .
–Earlier this morning I was on a walk in the woods and felt a prompting to go down a short, narrow path to a creek. However, I didn’t want to do that, so I kept walking, but the prompting wouldn’t go away. So after about 10 steps I reluctantly turned back and went down the path.
–The first thing I noticed was that the creek bed was a series of huge flat rocks. Then I saw 3 ducks wading downstream in single file in less than an inch of water — it barely covered their feet. I watched them waddle for a while and in about a minute they walked off the rock into a pool of water and began to swim.
–Then these words came to my mind: You and the people at Berry Street and many, many others have been wading in very shallow water of My Spirit, but keep following Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and soon you will swim in My Presence.
–I got back on the main trail and continued walking. In a little while, I saw two buzzards and even though I walked within three feet of them, they didn’t move. They were feasting on a small, smelly carcass.
–As I pondered the sight, a question came to my mind: Do you want to follow the buzzards or the ducks?
–(I wonder what the Duck Dynasty folks would say about my walk?)

About Steve Simms

I like to look and think outside the box. In college I encountered Jesus Christ and I have been passionate about trying to get to know Him better ever since. My wife and I long to see the power and passion of the first Christ-followers come to life in our time. I have written a book about our experiences in non-traditional church, called, "Beyond Church: An Invitation To Experience The Lost Word Of The Bible--Ekklesia."
