Ceremonies or Testimonies? The Historic Jesus or The Living, Resurrected Jesus?

Ceremonies or testimonies? What if church moved beyond scripted ceremonies about the historic Jesus and began to include spontaneous testimonies about the living Jesus?

Perhaps a fresh anointing is somehow tied to the freedom of God’s people to flow spontaneously in the Spirit as they share and testify in participatory church meetings.

Two quotations:

“Anyone who has studied the book of Acts is probably aware that the modern church bears little resemblance to the First Century church. The church was once a rather informal gathering of believers who viewed one another as a family.” — Mitch Cervinka

“In the early church there was no professional ministry. It arose in the second century with the monarchial bishop. In the New Testament church there was no such thing because every believer was in the ministry.” –William J. McRae

About Steve Simms

I like to look and think outside the box. In college I encountered Jesus Christ and I have been passionate about trying to get to know Him better ever since. My wife and I long to see the power and passion of the first Christ-followers come to life in our time. I have written a book about our experiences in non-traditional church, called, "Beyond Church: An Invitation To Experience The Lost Word Of The Bible--Ekklesia." If you need encouragement, search for: Elephants Encouraging The Room and/or check out my Amazon author page. Thank you!

The sad thing is when I have shared with a seasoned Christian how my family lives our lives, it has no credibility in their eyes because there is no pastor or programs we attend. We moved to a community of less than 6500, which is VERY churched. I feel like the disciples preaching the gospel to the Jews. I am fumbling for a way to share without hurting feelings or it be a deal breaker when making friends.
