If you enjoy social media, you’ve just got to try social-church!

Social-church is a Christ-centered gathering where ordinary people share messages, personal testimonies, prayer needs, insights, Scriptures, prayers, etc., and other community-based input, as prompted by the Holy Spirit. Social-church connects people in a participatory and transparent way that facilitates collective wisdom, engagement, and interaction with God.

In the New Testament church was social. Its meetings were cooperative and collaborative awe-filled, glory-gatherings; not passive and spectative sermon sessions. Perhaps that is why the early church was filled with God’s power and glory.

There are no “laymen” in social-church. Major Stephen Court of The Salvation Army Canada Territory and author of the ArmyBarmy Blog, http://armybarmyblog.blogspot.com/, puts it this way:

“There are no ‘lay people’ in The Salvation Army. By using worlds like ‘clergy’ and ‘laity’ we are reinforcing the unbiblical clergy/laity split, a strategy that rather weakens than strengthens the people of God.”

Perhaps we have too many church socials and not enough social-church!
