Why don’t we see more of God’s miracles in our lives and in church meetings, when God is doing mighty things today? All over the world, God is touching everyday people deeply in order to release His presence, His peace, and His power in their heart.
1) Many of us are so stressed, so self-focused, and/or so scheduled, that we simply shut down or silence the amazing things that God is seeking to do within us.
2) When God does do amazing things inside of us, we often write them off as coincidence, as our subconscious mind, or as caused by something we ate.
3) Even when we’re convinced that God has acted within us, we don’t tell anyone about what He has done because we are intimated by the religious culture of silence that falsely frames faith as a “quiet thing”, when Jesus proclaimed that faith is something to “shout from the housetops”.
4) Churches require people to sit silently and listen to a professional preacher and don’t give them an opportunity to openly express what God has done in their hearts and lives; thereby silencing many testimonies to God’s contemporary miracles. However, when everyday people are allowed to express what God is doing in their hearts, they will! And when they do, the power and presence of God fills the room.
–So what is the answer? How do we see more miracles in our lives and churches.
1) “You should watch for God’s action within you, and pause when you feel your heart touched.” –Jean Nicholas Grou. Then say and/or do what God tells you to.
2) Church meetings need to make room for ordinary people to share how God is working in their hearts and lives. If people are more important than the program or the liturgy and someone sitting in a church meeting is needing comfort, shouldn’t the program be set aside and comfort be given to the hurting person? Jesus said He would leave the 99 for the Shouldn’t we?
At The Salvation Army Berry Street people are free to show and tell what God has done. “Be a spiritual leader. Cast vision. Have a clear and passionate focus for mission. Be ready to adjust strategies. Above all, like Jesus be a Servant Leader.” –General Eva Burrows
–Our vision at Berry Street: To see open, Spirit-led sharing and participation restored to church services.
–Our focus: To clearly and passionately live out and demonstrate unprogrammed, Spirit-led meetings; and to use every means possible to lovingly share the wonderful benefits and joys of participatory church.
