The Best Community Improvement is . . .

Daily writing prompt
How would you improve your community?

The best community improvement doesn’t happen merely through a rallying cry for volunteers, through government money, or through a deeply thought-out program. History shows that it is spontaneously produced by inspired and transformed human hearts. (Read the history of Christian revivals.)

God invites you to behold (and experience) Jesus, the lamb of God. Religion is satisfied if you are merely told about Him. Trade your religion for Christ’s revitalization!

Jesus didn’t come to start thousands of religious denominations around the world. He came to heal and to have a personal relationship with billions of human beings “from every tribe and language and people and nation.”

Jesus wants a never-ending relationship of your fellowship and heart alliance with Him. Church wants your religious compliance. Jesus although unseen with the natural eye is infinitely more powerful than any religious machine.

Jesus is “the same, yesterday, today, and forever.” The Christian religion changes, rearranges, and finds clever ways to conform to the culture around it.

Jesus is beautiful. Religion is dutiful.

Jesus radiates joy. Religion is like soy-based tofu.

Jesus is grandiose! Religion is often a bland dose.

Jesus produces the fruit of the Spirit. Religion presents nicely packaged programs.

Jesus wants your life-long attention. Religion settles for your weekly attendance and financial contribution.

Jesus miraculously reconstructs and transforms people. Religion merely instructs and informs them.

Jesus builds people together in heart-to-heart community. Religion builds ecclesiastical hierarchies.

Jesus leads. Religion lectures. Refuse to let religion or anything else distract your focus from the risen Jesus through traditions, politics, the Easter Bunny, Santa Claus, or any other thing.

Alive, alive, O taste and see that Jesus is alive. Let Him connect heart-to-heart with you and flow like electricity within you. (If you’re living like Jesus is dead, you’ll be content with a weekly dab of dead religious routine. Don’t do that.)

About Steve Simms

I like to look and think outside the box. In college I encountered Jesus Christ and I have been passionate about trying to get to know Him better ever since. My wife and I long to see the power and passion of the first Christ-followers come to life in our time. I have written a book about our experiences in non-traditional church, called, "Beyond Church: An Invitation To Experience The Lost Word Of The Bible--Ekklesia." If you need encouragement, search for: Elephants Encouraging The Room and/or check out my Amazon author page. Thank you!
