Have You Ever Been To A “Hath A” Meeting?

The phrase “hath a” is from The King James Version (KJV) of the Bible (also known as the Authorized Version).  This version is now more than 400 years old and the English language has changed drastically in that time.   We no longer use words like “ye” or “hath” or “thee” or “thou” or “thy.”  Yet the truth and beauty of the King James Bible hasn’t changed.

I read various versions.  However, I like one of my favorite verses in King James English.  It reads:  “When ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation.” (I Corinthians 14:26, KJV).  That’s a “hath a” meeting!

As far as I can find, this is the only place in the New Testament that specifically instructs Christians on what to do when we have a meeting.  It says “every one of you hath a . . .,” meaning that everybody gathered in the meeting has something to share.

So since the Bible clearly instructs us on how to meet together, I wonder why are “hath a” meetings so rare?  They are very difficult to find.

If you would ever like to visit a “hath a” meeting, there is one in Nashville at The Salvation Army Berry Street Worship Center, 225 Berry St., 37207 — Sundays at 10:45am and Thursdays at 6:30 pm.  Come and experience a “hath a” meeting for yourself sometime.

About Steve Simms

I like to look and think outside the box. In college I encountered Jesus Christ and I have been passionate about trying to get to know Him better ever since. My wife and I long to see the power and passion of the first Christ-followers come to life in our time. I have written a book about our experiences in non-traditional church, called, "Beyond Church: An Invitation To Experience The Lost Word Of The Bible--Ekklesia." If you need encouragement, search for: Elephants Encouraging The Room and/or check out my Amazon author page. Thank you!
