This isn’t an Olympic sport, but it needs to be taken seriously. It’s not a spectator sport. It’s a life-time goal for every human being. I’m talking about the human race racing to erase self-righteousness from our heart and life. That’s actually more difficult and requires more training than any Olympic sport.
Self-righteousness is much more dangerous than most people realize. is the breeding ground for prejudice, hatred, and injustice. Self-righteousness produces unkindness, insults, anger, bitterness, and even violence. It refuses to see and admit its own faults.
Self-righteousness
And pride
Ride
Side by side.
If you’re proud
You might as well
Say out loud
That you’re also
Self-righteous.
Self-righteousness is narrow minded. It neglects to see the good in people it disagrees with.
Refusing to apologize is a sign of self-righteousness. It’s often used to hide a guilty conscience.
To simmer in self-righteousness is to bask in deception. Self-righteousness is delusional. The Bible says: “There is none righteous, no not one.” The sin of self-righteousness masquerades as goodness and virtue.
Self-righteousness blinds people to truth. It makes people think that they can do no wrong.
The greatest enemy to good government is self-righteousness. When the self-righteous govern a nation pride and ego take over and drive kindness and compassion away. A self-righteous government is the worst government.
The USA is experiencing how mean and hardhearted self-righteous people can be. Neither the self-righteous right nor the radical left has the answer. Americans need to meet in the center and work together with kindness and humility.
Jesus said to love your enemies. Governments that use religion to justify their existence too often send their young soldiers to kill their enemies. They even label immigrants and their own citizens who disagree with them as enemies.
Religion too often strives to theologically and politically justify wars. Jesus says: “Put your sword back in its place for all who draw the sword will die by the sword.” (Matthew 26:52)
Incompetent governments lead people to war to distract attention from their shortcomings. It is so sad to see the USA ignoring the international laws it helped to create by committing war crimes that violate those laws.
Starting a war by trying to bomb a country “back into the stone age” isn’t prolife. It’s cruel, inhumane, and evil. To beg for the Nobel Peace Prize and then start a war when you didn’t get it is great hypocrisy.
