Here are some quotations about how resorting to the violence of war is failure. Personally, I believer war to be humanity’s greatest failure. So why is war applauded and lauded, glorified and honored by our culture? Is failure something that we should encourage? Shouldn’t people have the freedom to speak out against and not participate in the failure of war?
“War isn’t civilized. War is failure. It is the ultimate result of a breakdown in public policy.” –the 38th Governor of Minnesota Jesse Ventura
“War is failure of diplomacy.” –US Congressman John Dingell
“As far as I’m concerned, war always means failure.” –former French President Jacques Chirac
“War is an admission of failure” –author K.J. Parker
”The guns and the bombs, the rockets and the warships, are all symbols of human failure.” –former US President Lyndon B Johnson
“All wars are follies, very expensive and very mischievous ones.” –Benjamin Franklin
“War is the greatest plague that can affect humanity; it destroys religion, it destroys states, it destroys families. Any scourge is preferable to it.” –Reformation leader Martin Luther
“The ultimate weakness of violence is that it is a descending spiral, begetting the very thing it seeks to destroy. Instead of diminishing evil, it multiplies it.” –civil rights leader, Martin Luther King, Jr.
“Our world is desperately in need of imagination, for we have spent so much creativity devising ways of destroying our enemies that some folks don’t even think it’s possible (much less practical) to love them. We have placed such idolatrous faith in our ability to protect ourselves that we call it more courageous to die killing than to die loving.” –author of The Irresistible Revolution: Living As An Ordinary Radical, Shane Claiborne
