Can What You Know Prevent You From Learning?

Millions of Europeans knew that the world was flat.  They had no desire to sail off of the edge of the world.  So ships sailed close to shore and no one learned that there was a new world across the Atlantic Ocean.

Then one day, Christopher Columbus dismissed his fear of falling off the world, and talked Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand of Spain into funding a voyage of discovery across the Atlantic.  What did Chris stumble upon?   The Americas.

“It is what we think we know already that often prevents us from learning.” –a quotation from Claude Bernard

* There is a fresh, exciting way of doing church centered around open sharing and testimonies (much like a support group) rather than around a one-person sermon. (See 1 Corinthians 14:26.)

* However, sometimes, what we think church should be like keeps us from experiencing the excitement and glory of participatory church. Why not check it out for yourself with us at The Salvation Army Berry Street — 225 Berry St., Nashville, 37207 on Sunday mornings at 10:45?

About Steve Simms

I like to look and think outside the box. In college I encountered Jesus Christ and I have been passionate about trying to get to know Him better ever since. My wife and I long to see the power and passion of the first Christ-followers come to life in our time. I have written a book about our experiences in non-traditional church, called, "Beyond Church: An Invitation To Experience The Lost Word Of The Bible--Ekklesia." If you need encouragement, search for: Elephants Encouraging The Room and/or check out my Amazon author page. Thank you!
