Quaker Style Meetings In The Salvation Army

The early Quakers believed that the living, resurrected Jesus was present with them when they met together in His name and that He, Himself, could lead the meeting without the need for a human leader or a human program. For the past 5 1/2 years we have met that way at The Salvation Army Berry Street in Nashville, Tennessee, and it has been truly amazing to experience the living Jesus, Himself, take charge of the meeting and direct it.

Jesus in our midst!“The affinity between Quakers and Salvationists has been noted since The Salvation Army began. W.T. Stead called William Booth ‘the George Fox of the nineteenth century,’ and (Salvation Army) General Wilfred Kitching found ‘sufficient evidence to suggest that in thought and practice there is perhaps a closer unity between The Society of Friends and The Salvation Army than between any other religious movements.'” –Colonel Richard Munn

If you are in the Nashville area, come experience Berry Street for yourself — Sundays at 10:45, 225 Berry St., 37207.

About Steve Simms

I like to look and think outside the box. In college I encountered Jesus Christ and I have been passionate about trying to get to know Him better ever since. My wife and I long to see the power and passion of the first Christ-followers come to life in our time. I have written a book about our experiences in non-traditional church, called, "Beyond Church: An Invitation To Experience The Lost Word Of The Bible--Ekklesia." If you need encouragement, search for: Elephants Encouraging The Room and/or check out my Amazon author page. Thank you!
