Has The Gospel Lost It’s Power In The 21st Century?

Has the Gospel lost its pull on people’s hearts? No, the church has lost the passion to powerfully present the Gospel. “Having a form of godliness but denying the power thereof, from such turn away.” 2 Timothy 3:5

When ordinary people are permitted to passionately present what God has done (and is doing) in their life, power permeates church meetings. Try it at your church and see (or come visit us at The Salvation Army Berry Street, 225 Berry St., Nashville, TN 37207, on Sunday mornings at 10:45 — where everyday people show and tell what God has done).

Another reason that people are not passionate about the Gospel is that they have been brainwashed to believe that the Gospels are not reliable.  Many Bible scholars date the book of Matthew around 100 AD when most if not all of the eye witnesses to Christ were already dead.

However, Matthew, itself shows that it was written before 70 AD. In 70 the Roman army burned and flattened the city of Jerusalem, killing about a million people in the process. However Matthew says: “So they decided to use the money to buy the potter’s field as a burial place for foreigners. That is why it has been called the Field of Blood to this day.” If Matthew had been written after 70 AD, no one would have been able to identify the Field of Blood in the all of the rubble around Jerusalem.

The Gospels are reliable!  And passionately sharing the Gospel is still powerful.  But how can people passionately share the Gospel if all they have seen are mental based sermons.  Perhaps it is time for the church to let regular people testify about the living God in church services.

About Steve Simms

I like to look and think outside the box. In college I encountered Jesus Christ and I have been passionate about trying to get to know Him better ever since. My wife and I long to see the power and passion of the first Christ-followers come to life in our time. I have written a book about our experiences in non-traditional church, called, "Beyond Church: An Invitation To Experience The Lost Word Of The Bible--Ekklesia." If you need encouragement, search for: Elephants Encouraging The Room and/or check out my Amazon author page. Thank you!
