Your stream of consciousness is a faucet with 2 flows: H & C — hell & Christ. In most of us they flow together in a mix.
The Bible calls the H-flow (hell-flow) “the acts of the flesh.” It calls the C-flow (Christ-flow) “the fruit of the Spirit.
“The acts (flows) of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like . . . But the fruit (flow) of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” Galatians 5: 19-23.
So what determines the flow in your heart, mind, and life? Well, ultimately you do — you have the freedom to exercise your personal preference. However, there are several additional forces working to determine the flow in you: In our society; media, peer pressure, and temptation are continually attempting to turn up your H-flow. If you don’t learn to resist, avoid, and overcome these factors, you’ll soon be running red-H on the road to self-destruction.
The knobs on the faucet in your stream of consciousness get rusty and are very hard to turn. Many people say that it is too hard to change them and they give in to fatalism and determinism and let the H-stream run, scorching their peace and happiness.
However, some people determine to stop burning themselves up by turning down the H-knob and turning up the C-knob. It’s not an easy decision, because it goes against our contemporary culture and there is so much resistance to it — both externally and inside yourself.
But if you are tired of the pounding pain of persistent self-destruction, why not begin to readjust the flows in your stream of consciousness so that the H-flow is shut down and the C-flow runs all out? (The Bible calls this repentance.) If you have difficulty readjusting the knobs in your consciousness, don’t wimp out and quit trying. Instead get some help! Go to a counselor, a minister, a friend, a support group, or a church that functions like a support group, and get help. (If your bathroom faucet was stuck on H and you couldn’t get the H-flow to turn off, you wouldn’t just ignore it; you’d call a plumber! So what’s the difference with a stuck H-flow in your heart?)

I absolutely LOVE this analogy! It describes the choice of living or not living for Christ in terms anyone should be able to understand no matter where they are in their walk with Him. Keep writing my Brother!
Thanks so much for the encouraging word, Wanda!
