Millennial town
Unmoved for 1,000 years,
Longest continually inhabited
Multi-family dwellings
In the entire world;
Sitting in a beautiful valley
On both sides of a roaring river;
Resisting terrorism
For hundreds of years,
Surviving disrespect, persecution,
Abuse and genocide;
Containing the ruins
Of their bombed out church
Where more than 100
Women and children
Seeking sanctuary
Were killed.
Yet still welcoming visitors
To wander though
Their adobe village,
To talk with them
And get a feel for
For their ancient culture.
What a testimony of survival
Against all odds.
Overcoming innumerable obstacles,
Taos Pueblo is a moving witness
To the power of community,
To hope and love in the human heart
That can sustain a people
For a thousand years.
Does this millennial people
Have a message
For the Millennial generation?
Cultivate caring community.
Love and support one another
From the heart.
Be kind to those who work against you.
Release the pain of your past.
Discover the inspiration in your heritage
And faithfully hold on to it
Against all opposition.
Keep a beautiful vision
For the future
Alive in your heart.
Taos — the millennial town
Reminds me of
The two millennial
Community-building technique
Established by Christ
But seldom practiced —
Described like this:
“When you come together,
Each of you has a hymn,
A word of instruction,
A revelation.”
Taos Pueblo is located beside Taos, New Mexico, USA.
