Running For President / Running In The Salvation Army

–Who is running in 2016? And for what?
–Perhaps America’s most important question is not “Who’s running for President?” but “Who’s running for Jesus?” Are you?
–There are so many people running for President in 2016. One website lists 25 candidates — 19 Republicans and 6 Democrats — so far.
–I saw one of them in the Nashville Airport in May. I was in line behind Rand Paul at a McDonalds. He took his food and went and sat down. Moments later he was back with a large McDonalds’ cup, saying that he had the wrong drink. One of the McDonalds workers said to another: “That man doesn’t like his drink.” So the worker replaced Senator Paul’s drink apparently without recognizing him as a candidate for President.
–In The Salvation Army we are running for something. The Bible put’s it this way: “Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.” The prize is holiness — a lifestyle of daily following and obeying the living, resurrected Jesus Christ.

–Do the people around us recognize that we are running for the greatest calling in the land? Or do they think that we are just ordinary people living to satisfy our needs and desires? Do people recognize us as candidates campaigning for Jesus? If they don’t see a passion in us to serve Jesus with our lives, perhaps we have not “run in such a way as to get the prize.”

About Steve Simms

I like to look and think outside the box. In college I encountered Jesus Christ and I have been passionate about trying to get to know Him better ever since. My wife and I long to see the power and passion of the first Christ-followers come to life in our time. I have written a book about our experiences in non-traditional church, called, "Beyond Church: An Invitation To Experience The Lost Word Of The Bible--Ekklesia." If you need encouragement, search for: Elephants Encouraging The Room and/or check out my Amazon author page. Thank you!
