People who close their mind and heart to God like to boast that they are open minded.

Some people choose to close their mind and heart to God and then boast about how open-minded their closed minds are. We all close our mind to some things.

What is your mind closed to? I choose to close my mind and heart to garbage, not to God! I close my mind and heart to negativity, meanness, violence, vulgarity, disrespect, and wrong doing.

What do you close your mind and heart to? Hopefully not to God’s voice in your heart!

Why does God talk so much?
–Some people say that God is silent, but I hear Him talking everywhere I go. Every time I see something in nature, God says “I made that!” Every time I see someone show love, compassion, kindness, or mercy, God says; “I inspired that.” Every time I struggle, God says “Let Me be strong in you.” Every time I’m in pain, God says, “Let me comfort you.” Every time I go astray, God says, “Come back and I’ll forgive you and give you power to follow Me.”

What if a group gathered to be taught by God — to each one listen to God’s voice in their heart and then share what they hear? They would all come closer to the living, resurrected Jesus and encounter His real presence among them! The Greek New Testament name for this is ekklesia.

(These observation is based on the Bible passage in John 6:45 and on 7 1/2 years of meeting this way at The Salvation Army Berry Street. Come see for yourself, every Sunday morning at 10:45, 225 Berry St., Nashville, 37207.)

About Steve Simms

I like to look and think outside the box. In college I encountered Jesus Christ and I have been passionate about trying to get to know Him better ever since. My wife and I long to see the power and passion of the first Christ-followers come to life in our time. I have written a book about our experiences in non-traditional church, called, "Beyond Church: An Invitation To Experience The Lost Word Of The Bible--Ekklesia." If you need encouragement, search for: Elephants Encouraging The Room and/or check out my Amazon author page. Thank you!
