Poem–The Lost Word Of The Bible

. . . Searching For A Lost Word . . .
When the Bible
Came into English
A word was left behind,
Lost and forgotten,
Replaced by a weaker word.
Perhaps we need
The lost word of the Bible
To show us the way
To go beyond church
And make Jesus real
To people alive today.
What’s in a word?
Power or passivity.
The passive word, “church,”
Replaced God’s power word,
“Ekklesia.”
“‘The difference between the right word and the almost right word is the difference between lightening and a lightening bug.’ –Mark Twain  Lightening or lightening bug? Ekklesia or church? When the Bible was translated into English the lightening bug word church was used to replace God’s lightening word ekklesia. Jesus said ‘I will build My ekklesia.’ (Ekklesia was the city council of ancient Greek city-states.)” –Quote from the book, Beyond Church–An Invitation To Experience The Lost Word Of The Bible; Ekklesia(Every “Done”–people who are burned out on church– needs to read it.)

About Steve Simms

I like to look and think outside the box. In college I encountered Jesus Christ and I have been passionate about trying to get to know Him better ever since. My wife and I long to see the power and passion of the first Christ-followers come to life in our time. I have written a book about our experiences in non-traditional church, called, "Beyond Church: An Invitation To Experience The Lost Word Of The Bible--Ekklesia." If you need encouragement, search for: Elephants Encouraging The Room and/or check out my Amazon author page. Thank you!
