Are we literally livin’ in cyber space?

I recently saw a PBS documentary that suggested that if we were living in a video game we would be convinced that we and everything around us is real. However the only real thing about cyber space is the information and directions conveyed by the programming language that deliberately arranged and arranges the electrons.

The real world is no more “real” than the cyber world. The cyber world is made up of electrons — tiny sparks of energy. So is the physical world. These bits of energy are like letters in a language. The way they are arranged creates the software that determines the structure and environment of both the cyber and physical world.

In the physical world the arrangement of electrons (as depicted on the Periodic Table) determine types of matter. In the cyber world it determines images and words on a screen.

Take away the electrons and there is no cyber space and no physical material. Scientists say that all the subatomic particles in the universe could easily fit in the palm of a human hand. The rest of everything in the universe (that we call matter) is just empty space — bubbles encircled by electrons traveling at the speed of light.

What we call reality (or the real world) is really an illusion — empty space masquerading as solid matter. Everything in the physical world (from hardened steel to apples) is really like these two tables: a collection of billions of electron bubbles that we call atoms. Pop the bubbles and there is nothing left.

So what is real? The wisdom in the software — the non-material intelligence that organized the electron patterns that determine both the physical world and cyber space. Human intelligence has organized electrons to establish cyber space. But who or what organized the electrons to establish the physical world?

Humans throughout history (even primitive peoples), have recognized the fact that there is some sort of intelligence and/or being that (or who) created the physical world (by programming the electrons). Do you?

(While I was editing this post, I read it to my wife. Then she immediately picked up her Bible to start her day and flipped it open. The first thing she saw was: “The foolish are convinced deep down that there is no God.” –Psalm 53:1) Coincidence? Or a sign from God?

About Steve Simms

I like to look and think outside the box. In college I encountered Jesus Christ and I have been passionate about trying to get to know Him better ever since. My wife and I long to see the power and passion of the first Christ-followers come to life in our time. I have written a book about our experiences in non-traditional church, called, "Beyond Church: An Invitation To Experience The Lost Word Of The Bible--Ekklesia." If you need encouragement, search for: Elephants Encouraging The Room and/or check out my Amazon author page. Thank you!
