Can a person have both adventure and security? Yes. Here’s how I experience both throughout each day.
With no merit to proclaim, (Romans 3:10) with no righteousness to boast about, (Isaiah 64:6)) I cry out to God for mercy. “Have mercy on me, my God, have mercy on me.” (Psalm 57:1) Through the blood of Jesus He offers me refuge from my guilt and shame, forgiveness and deliverance from my sin and rebellion. He sent His Son to save me from the evil that pursues me like a roaring lion, both from within (Romans 7:18) and from without. (1 Peter 5:8)
Through all attacks I want to fight the good fight of faith. (1 Timothy 6:12) I seek to keep my heart steadfast on God and my soul awake to His presence. (Psalm 57:7-8) I desire to continually submit myself to God and to always resist the devil. (James 4:7) I long to abide in Christ and He in me. (John 15:4) I press toward the goal (Philippians 3:14) of ceaselessly worshiping God in the Spirit, rejoicing in Christ Jesus, and having no confidence in the flesh. (Philippians 3:3) Ongoing surrender to Christ in me is my only hope. (Colossians 1:27)
Christians need regular encounters with the living Jesus much more than we need frequent Christian services and events. Strong passionate faith in Christ grows as a consequence of spending lots of time interacting with and surrendering to the risen Jesus. The temple that God wants most to be welcomed into and worshipped in is the temple of your body. (1 Corinthians 6:19)
