The Power Of Fasting

Fasting is going without food in order to focus on seeking God through prayer.  Spiritual power is released through fasting.

Jesus said that some deliverance only comes “by prayer and fasting.”  Fasting is the active and intentional denial of our body’s desire for food.  It naturally creates physical hunger.  This hunger then makes us desperate and causes us to pray with more passion.  The Bible says that “fervent prayer” accomplishes much.

Physical hunger shows us our human limitations, humbles us, and makes us hungry for God’s help.  “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled.”

By humbling us, fasting opens us up to receive and be filled with God’s Presence and power.  “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”

Fasting makes the Bible more real to us.  If Scripture doesn’t burn in your heart when you ready it, try fasting for a day.

Tomorrow (February 19) in Nashville, The Salvation Army Berry Street Worship Center will be hosting a day of prayer and fasting at 225 Berry St., 37207, from 11:00am – 5:00pm.  Everyone is welcome.

About Steve Simms

I like to look and think outside the box. In college I encountered Jesus Christ and I have been passionate about trying to get to know Him better ever since. My wife and I long to see the power and passion of the first Christ-followers come to life in our time. I have written a book about our experiences in non-traditional church, called, "Beyond Church: An Invitation To Experience The Lost Word Of The Bible--Ekklesia." If you need encouragement, search for: Elephants Encouraging The Room and/or check out my Amazon author page. Thank you!
