Top Ten Most Disobeyed New Testament Scriptures

What are the top ten most disobeyed New Testament Scriptures?  Here is my list of nominations (from the New International Version {NIV}) for the ten most ignored Bible verses:

10)  “Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”  Matthew 6:33

9)  “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.” Philippians 2:3

8)  “Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body.”  I Corinthians 6:18

7)  “Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.” Luke 6:27-28

6)  “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them and their high officials exercise authority over them.  Not so with you.  Instead whosoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave.”  Matthew 20:25-27

5)  “Do not put out the Spirit’s fire.”  1 Thessalonians 5:19

4)  “What then shall we say, brothers? When you come together, everyone has a hymn, or a word of instruction, a revelation, a tongue or an interpretation. All of these must be done for the strengthening of the church.” I Corinthians 14:26

3)  “Then Jesus said to his host, “When you give a luncheon or dinner, do not invite your friends, your brothers or relatives, or your rich neighbors; if you do, they may invite you back and so you will be repaid.  But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.”  Luke 14:12-14

2)  “Two or three prophets should speak, and the others should weigh carefully what is said.  And if a revelation comes to someone who is sitting down, the first speaker should stop.  For you can all prophesy in turn so that everyone may be instructed and encouraged.”  I Corinthians 14:29-31

1) “Then He said to them all: ‘If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.”  Luke 9:23

About Steve Simms

I like to look and think outside the box. In college I encountered Jesus Christ and I have been passionate about trying to get to know Him better ever since. My wife and I long to see the power and passion of the first Christ-followers come to life in our time. I have written a book about our experiences in non-traditional church, called, "Beyond Church: An Invitation To Experience The Lost Word Of The Bible--Ekklesia." If you need encouragement, search for: Elephants Encouraging The Room and/or check out my Amazon author page. Thank you!
