Church — Massaging the Mind Or Harvesting The Heart?

Jesus taught that spiritual inspiration (revelation) is the harvest of the heart.  He said:  “Out of your innermost being shall flow rivers of living water.”  (John 7:38).

The purpose of church (of believers gathering together) is to release the inner flow so that the Holy Spirit can move through those present and manifest the power and presence of the living, resurrected Jesus Christ through the gifts and the fruit of the Spirit.

Religious information moves through the brain.  However, church is much deeper and more profound that mental messages and concepts.  Church ignites the human heart with the fire of God, it doesn’t just massage the mind.

If a religious meeting doesn’t get beyond the brain, if it leaves the heart untouched, unchanged, and unmoved by the living God, it may be a lecture on religion, but it really church?

About Steve Simms

I like to look and think outside the box. In college I encountered Jesus Christ and I have been passionate about trying to get to know Him better ever since. My wife and I long to see the power and passion of the first Christ-followers come to life in our time. I have written a book about our experiences in non-traditional church, called, "Beyond Church: An Invitation To Experience The Lost Word Of The Bible--Ekklesia." If you need encouragement, search for: Elephants Encouraging The Room and/or check out my Amazon author page. Thank you!
