Traditionally church has been . . .
–One special man weekly instructing a passive group of ordinary people.
Biblically church seems to be . . .
–A Spirit-led group of ordinary people actively teaching and ministering to one another in love. (See 1 Corinthians 14:26)
Biblical church creates hearts that are sensitive to the Holy Spirit. Hearts tender and humble before the Lord are like the box of perfume that was poured on Jesus’ feet — they fill the room with a supernatural sweetness that ushers in His presence. I am so blessed to be in the presence of such hearts on Sunday mornings at The Salvation Army Berry Street.
A heart burning for God is a gift that is caught in His presence, not something just taught from a pulpit. I caught it when as a college freshman I walked into a Spirit-led, participatory meeting at The University of Tennessee Martin and I’ve never been the same. You can expose yourself to the contagion of His flame at The Salvation Army Berry Street Worship Center in Nashville, TN — Sundays at 10:45 am., 225 Berry Street, 37211.
