How many heads does the body of Christ have?

How many heads does the body of Christ (the church) have? While praying I had a vision in my mind’s eye.

I saw Christ standing facing me. However, His head was hanging off to His side. In place of His head, there were hundreds of heads piled up on His neck.

Has the church replaced the headship of Christ with human heads? Human CEOs?

Church has often confined Christ to a clerical catacomb.
–Who will roll the stone away and allow Christ to control church services? (If Christ is the King and the Head of the church, shouldn’t He literally control His kingdom?)

Because of Easter, we are like John the Baptist — preparing the way for the living Jesus Christ!
–Perhaps rather than focusing people’s attention on our name, our picture, our “ministry,” we should be like John and say; “He must increase, but I must decrease.”
–Let’s allow the living, resurrected Jesus to be the one and only Head of the church; and let’s hide ourselves and our needs for personal recognition, away from public view.

Here’s a pic that is similar to my vision, except that instead of just a few heads on Christ’s neck, my vision showed hundreds.

About Steve Simms

I like to look and think outside the box. In college I encountered Jesus Christ and I have been passionate about trying to get to know Him better ever since. My wife and I long to see the power and passion of the first Christ-followers come to life in our time. I have written a book about our experiences in non-traditional church, called, "Beyond Church: An Invitation To Experience The Lost Word Of The Bible--Ekklesia." If you need encouragement, search for: Elephants Encouraging The Room and/or check out my Amazon author page. Thank you!
