Jesus building His ekklesia (a beyond church poem)

I woke up this morning with this poem going through my mind. (Did I write it or did the living, resurrected Jesus give it to me?) The living Jesus is speaking to all His followers. Perhaps we should allow everyday people the time and freedom to share what they are hearing from Jesus when we gather in His name!

Jesus Building His Ekklesia

We meet to hear the living Jesus speaking
And then each one to share with one another
The living Word that we have heard;
The living Word that we have heard;

The still small voice, the inner prompting,
The insights, images, and spiritual gifts,
That burn in our hearts like fire!
That burn in our hearts like fire!

And as we ordinary people
Share the living Word that we have heard
The power of Jesus’ presence,
The power of Jesus’ presence;

Overflows the place with love and grace.
Jesus is building His ekklesia
And the gates of Hell will not prevail!
And the gates of Hell will not prevail!

Ekklesia is the Greek word that has been replaced in English language Bible translations with the word church.

About Steve Simms

I like to look and think outside the box. In college I encountered Jesus Christ and I have been passionate about trying to get to know Him better ever since. My wife and I long to see the power and passion of the first Christ-followers come to life in our time. I have written a book about our experiences in non-traditional church, called, "Beyond Church: An Invitation To Experience The Lost Word Of The Bible--Ekklesia." If you need encouragement, search for: Elephants Encouraging The Room and/or check out my Amazon author page. Thank you!

  1. The Lord led me to your blog and in His perfect timing inspired me to start a new ministry, while staying involved with my Corps and working as the Program Coordinator:
