To “make America great again” requires a return to the high ideals of our national creeds: “Liberty and justice for all,” “All men are created equal and endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights,” “In God we trust,” and the Bill of Rights. Those creeds have served as a national conscience. Although as a nation and as individuals we have often ignored them, they have been a wrong-gong ringing out where and when we have gong wrong and calling us back to justice and morality.
Has our wrong-gong gone wrong? Has our conscience been twisted? Several generations have been trained to ignore it by the slogan; “If it feels good do it.”
Rather than our national creeds, present day society presents a formula that produces meaninglessness and despair. “Nothing + time = everything,” says that nothing is either right or wrong. Therefore many people today demand their rights and then ignore the most important right of all — the right too obey their conscious and live right with God!
However, Jesus presents a different formula that releases meaning and hope. “Love + forgiveness = transformation,” says that wrong exists, but we can find freedom from it.
A nation whose people are not hungry for God will look to politicians, government, and armies to do what only God and righteousness can do. And that’s a very dangerous situation.
How can America be great again? We need to begin to listen to our individual and national wrong-gong and obey our conscience!
