Is Church Missing Angelic Faces?
The backs of people’s heads are really boring,
But faces lit up by God are spiritually soaring.
So why does church sit people facing forward in perfect rows
And weekly have the same man show how much he knows?
When people pour out their heart in worship their face glows;
And their love for Jesus shows as plain as their nose.
But you can’t see angelic faces if you’re lined up in rows.
Looking at the back of people’s heads, you might as well doze,
But faces aglow with God’s love show that Christ truly rose.
“And all that sat in the council, looking steadfastly on him, saw his face as it had been the face of an angel.” –Acts 6:15 (NKJ)
–I grew up seeing the backs of people’s heads in church — lots of hair and some baldness; not much more. Then one day I walked into a meeting in the lobby of a dorm and saw a few dozen faces sitting around the room and loving on the living Jesus. Christ became real to me that day and I’ve been passionately in love with Him ever since. That’s the power of seeing faces aglow with the presence of the risen Jesus.
–There’s nothing like seeing Jesus in people’s faces. We miss out on seeing Him when we set up church so that you can’t see angelic faces of ordinary people reflecting Christ. That’s why we set up chairs in a U-shape at The Salvation Army Berry Street in Nashville, Tennessee and then let everyday people show and tell what God has done. The love and joy on their faces transform those who see. Come experience this for yourself every Sunday morning at 10:45, 225 Berry St., 37207. And read more about it in the book Beyond Church available at this link.
