Why put Jesus in a box?

Jesus in a box

Jesus is no Jack-in-the-box, alive one day and in the tomb the next. He’s not supposed to be preached about on Sunday and then shut up in a box for the rest of the week. Religion tries to turn a crank and keep Christ contained in a coffin, because when the living Jesus is on the loose, He stirs up a lot of stuff. Ekklesia, however, lets the risen Jesus crank things up! (More about ekklesia @  http://amzn.to/1ogjujR)

One way to let Jesus out of the box is to realize that preaching is for ordinary people, not just for pastors. Here’s Bible to back up that statement:
Acts 8:1 says: “A great persecution broke out against the church in Jerusalem, and all except the apostles were scattered.” Then verse 4 says: “Those who had been scattered (everybody but the apostles) preached the word wherever they went.”

“Risen” is Jesus’ permanent status!
–Allow the risen Jesus to freely post on the tmeline of your heart. Love and obey His posts. He’s the Friend who will never unfriend you. Don’t unfriend Him or block Him from your page.
–Join the group that Jesus started. He’s the Head of that group. He said in the Greek New Testament, “I will build My ekklesia,” and His followers are the “living stones” He builds with.
–Jesus is the administrator of His ekklesia and He allows anyone of His followers to post on His group page. The Bible says that in Jesus’ group — His ekklesia — “each of you has a hymn, or a word of instruction, a revelation.” (See 1 Corinthians 14:26.)

So is the risen Christ great enough to run a church service all by Himself?
–Billy Graham said: “This risen Christ, taken by faith in all of His power and glory, is great enough and big enough to cope with every problem the human race faces at this hour.”
–If that’s true, then surely the risen Jesus is “great enough and big enough” to run a church service without a preacher or a program controlling all that happens!

Church causes people to be dependent on the words of a preacher.
–Ekklesia releases people to depend on the living, risen Jesus speaking directly to them. Experience ekklesia for yourself every Sunday morning at 10:45 at The Salvation Army Berry Street, 225 Berry St., Nashville, 37207 — where ordinary people show and tell what God has done!

I love how the Holy Spirit gets people on the same page. Scott Strissel  posted a similar article today at this link. Check it out.

About Steve Simms

I like to look and think outside the box. In college I encountered Jesus Christ and I have been passionate about trying to get to know Him better ever since. My wife and I long to see the power and passion of the first Christ-followers come to life in our time. I have written a book about our experiences in non-traditional church, called, "Beyond Church: An Invitation To Experience The Lost Word Of The Bible--Ekklesia." If you need encouragement, search for: Elephants Encouraging The Room and/or check out my Amazon author page. Thank you!
