Tweaking old clichés

Think outside the cliché.

Nonsense makes the heart lose wonder.

If you’ve seen one cliché, you’ve seen them all.

If you’re going to use a cliché, at least take the time to come up with an original one.

Clichés help avoid original thinking.

Don’t accept tormenting thoughts. Avoid them till they’re vague.

What doesn’t kill you makes you live longer (and gives you the opportunity to live better).

People say “opposites attract,” but from what I read on social media opposites attack.

You can’t please everyone, but you can say “please” & “thank you” to everyone.

Reactions speak louder than words. (How do you react to the voice of your conscience?”)

Church keeps doing the same thing over and over again and expecting no results.

Church members are encouraged to be seen in church services, but they usually are not allowed to be heard there.

When church gives you lemons make lemonade.

Church — if it can go long, it will!

Two heads in church (Jesus & the pastor) aren’t better than one (Jesus only)!

To follow after Jesus is the best medicine. Don’t be on the wrong side of His story!

Do what Christ says with what you have where you are!

To live like there is no sorrow is denial. To take your sorrows to Christ is live changing.

Better sorry than safe in self-deception. “Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation.” 2 Corinthians 7:10

Rebellion against God is a sin-sin situation.

The glass is always cleaner on the other side. (“For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face.” 1 Cor. 13:12 KJV)

Church clichés don’t change lives. Christ does!

Some people can’t handle the truth, but Christ fits the human heart like a glove!

About Steve Simms

I like to look and think outside the box. In college I encountered Jesus Christ and I have been passionate about trying to get to know Him better ever since. My wife and I co-lead a non-traditional expression of the body of Christ in Nashville based on open participation and Spirit-led sharing. We long to see the power and passion of the first Christ-followers come to life in our time. I have written a book about our experiences called, "Beyond Church: An Invitation To Experience The Lost Word Of The Bible--Ekklesia" that is available in Kindle & paperback @
