My wife Ernie

Daily writing prompt
Describe a family member.

Our world desperately needs more encouragement, compassion, and kindness. My wife Ernie spreads those qualities everywhere she goes and to everybody she meets. She overflows with words and actions that give people hope.

Ernie keeps her heart open. She listens to people and hears with sincere interest the things they have to say. She celebrates their victories and grieves with them during their losses. She speaks hope-giving words, and she takes people muffins and cookies and uplifting gifts. She writes notes and texts and email messages that are so powerful that many people treasure and keep them. She’ll spend as much time listening to people as they need.

One of the most powerful ways that Ernie encourages people is by praying with them. Her prayers are Spirit-led and full of insights that make people aware of the presence and reality of God.

Ernie loves the living Jesus with all her heart and works to keep her focus on Him throughout the day. She strives to stay sensitive to His presence and His voice. She lets Him prompt her and direct her moment by moment. In the midst of her own struggles and pains, she keeps her eyes on Jesus and His hope burning in her heart.

Ernie is always hungering and thirsting to know Jesus better. She regularly reads the Bible with an open heart and then tries to do what it says. She is always looking for opportunities to put the Bible into action.

Life with Ernie is fresh and exciting because, no matter what we’re going through, I see Jesus living in and working through her. What a gift she is to me and to all who know her.

About Steve Simms

I like to look and think outside the box. In college I encountered Jesus Christ and I have been passionate about trying to get to know Him better ever since. My wife and I long to see the power and passion of the first Christ-followers come to life in our time. I have written a book about our experiences in non-traditional church, called, "Beyond Church: An Invitation To Experience The Lost Word Of The Bible--Ekklesia."
