My Self-Care Is to Rely on Jesus

Daily writing prompt
How do you make time for self-care?

Rely on the risen Jesus without reservation. Keep your heart full of hope (Romans 8:14) while cultivating and maintaining a deep awareness of your great need for His sacrifice on the Cross and His supernatural presence and healing power day by day.

If you forget that you still desperately need the forgiveness, power, and healing that come from Christ’s blood and His presence in you, you will drift away from daily reliance and dependence on Him. (Mark 2:17) Seeking God’s kingdom and righteousness won’t be your moment-by-moment first priority. (Matthew 6:33) You will become lukewarm. (Revelation 3:16)

Jesus put it this way. “Apart from Me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5) Until you acknowledge that truth deep in your soul, you will rely on self-effort and human pride. Until you will, like Paul, sincerely say, “O wretched man that I am;” (Romans 7:24-25) rather than relying on the presence of “Christ in you, the hope of glory,” you will depend on self-reliance, other people, and various things. All of that will eventually let you down.

When I stay aware of the wretchedness within my heart, that awareness keeps me seeking the presence and power of Jesus day and night. I cry out, “Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the living God, have mercy on me, a sinner.” And with hope, I rely on Him.

About Steve Simms

I like to look and think outside the box. In college I encountered Jesus Christ and I have been passionate about trying to get to know Him better ever since. My wife and I long to see the power and passion of the first Christ-followers come to life in our time. I have written a book about our experiences in non-traditional church, called, "Beyond Church: An Invitation To Experience The Lost Word Of The Bible--Ekklesia." If you need encouragement, search for: Elephants Encouraging The Room and/or check out my Amazon author page. Thank you!
