Many Voices Are Stalking You, Seducing You . . .

Life has given us free will, the ability and freedom to make choices (its pro choice).  Yet many voices are after you, stalking you, seducing you, competing for your choices.

*  The loud voice of desire boldly booms the proclamation:  “Satisfy yourself.  Do what you wanna do.  If it feels good, do it.”

*  The voice of conscience pleads:  “Do what is right.”

*  The voice of habit says: “Keep doing what you’re doing.”

*  The voice of apathy yawns:  “Your choices don’t matter, so stay in your comfort zone.”

*  The voice of intellect debates:  “Be rational.  Use your mind to figure it out.  Do what is logical.”

*  The voice of fear threatens:  “Protect yourself.  Run and hide.”

*  The voice of popular culture and media seductively says:  “Do what’s sexy, what’s hot, what’s vulgar and disrespectful.”

*  The timid voice of modern, Western religion says:  “Take some time on Sunday to do what’s traditional but do what you want the rest of the week.”

*  The voice of God cries out:  “Listen to Me and do what I say.”  (Romans 8:14, ISV:  “All who are led by God’s Spirit are God’s children.”)

In life, we have to choose between many voices.  Use discernment.  Examine outcomes.  Then wisely decide which voices you will follow and which ones you will fight and resist.

My goal is to follow and obey God and to resist obeying any voices that disagree with Him.  “Peter and the other apostles replied: ‘We must obey God rather than human beings!'” (Acts 5:29)

About Steve Simms

I like to look and think outside the box. In college I encountered Jesus Christ and I have been passionate about trying to get to know Him better ever since. My wife and I long to see the power and passion of the first Christ-followers come to life in our time. I have written a book about our experiences in non-traditional church, called, "Beyond Church: An Invitation To Experience The Lost Word Of The Bible--Ekklesia." If you need encouragement, search for: Elephants Encouraging The Room and/or check out my Amazon author page. Thank you!

Good word and reminder Steve, also, Romans 8.14 sure is a powerful scripture!

  2. Jeff's avatar Jeff says:

I think that if we either listen to God through His word or through a close relationship with the Holy Spirit, we’ll do OK.
