In the midst of the shopping celebrations (Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday) we now have a day for giving back — Giving Tuesday. American charities and non-profits have come together to create the first Giving Tuesday, tomorrow, November 27, 2012 — opening day for the year-end giving season.
The idea for Giving Tuesday came from Henry Timms, deputy executive director of the Jewish community center 92nd Street Y, and Kathy Calvin, CEO of the United Nations Foundation. Here’s how Henry Timms explains the concept: “‘We have a day for giving thanks, two days for getting deals. Why shouldn’t there be a day for giving back?”
More than 2,000 charities, business and organization have signed up to help kick off the first national Giving Tuesday. It’s a great day to give back.
