The Most Significant Other

The most significant Other in anyone’s life is the voice of God speaking to the heart. To notice and begin to obey God’s gentle inner whispers is to step into the supernatural dimension of life. The high calling you’ve sensed in your soul is the risen Jesus knocking on your heart’s door.

God is speaking all the time. And all the time, most people aren’t listening. “Most Christians don’t hear God’s voice because we’ve already decided we aren’t going to do what He says.” –A.W. Tozer

Let God train you to tenderly hear and obey Him. Stop shutting down what God’s Spirit is saying to you. When there is no peaceful, joyful melody in your heart, God is telling you something is out of tune.

One word heard directly from God is worth hundreds of thousands of words heard from a mere human mouth. However, doubt denies God’s voice.

Listen. Let God’s still small voice burn in your heart. It will brighten up your life. It may even make your body quake. In England in the 1600s groups of friends gathered to silently listen to and obey God’s voice together. Because they broke with religious tradition (but not with Christian doctrine) multitudes of them were arrested and thrown into prison. To insult them, people called them Quakers.

People who follow and flow with God’s voice are often considered crazy by those who are unwilling to hear God speak. Are you willing to be called crazy? I’m willing. That’s why I rarely get invited to preach in a traditional church. I think it is a miracle when I do!

If you are unwilling to hear what you don’t want to hear, you will miss God’s voice. The quieter, less distracted, and more surrendered you are, the more clearly you will hear Him speak. If you have the courage to persistently, humbly, and obediently listen, you can hear God’s still small voice.

It’s much easier to ignore God’s spiritual promptings than it is to faithfully notice and obey them. Dump the distractions that drown out God’s inner leadings, that dilute your awareness of His presence, and that draw you further from Him.

Refuse to allow anyone or anything (not even your ego) to stifle the Holy Spirit’s still small voice speaking in your soul. The more you listen and step out in obedience, the stronger the sound of His voice becomes. If you’re unwilling to daily walk the Spirit-led walk, (Romans 8:14) hearing another Sunday talk about Jesus won’t do you much good.

If you want to grow
Spiritually strong
Listen to and know
God’s inner voice
Speaking in your heart.

About Steve Simms

I like to look and think outside the box. In college I encountered Jesus Christ and I have been passionate about trying to get to know Him better ever since. My wife and I long to see the power and passion of the first Christ-followers come to life in our time. I have written a book about our experiences in non-traditional church, called, "Beyond Church: An Invitation To Experience The Lost Word Of The Bible--Ekklesia." If you need encouragement, search for: Elephants Encouraging The Room and/or check out my Amazon author page. Thank you!
