We live in a society that is big on enticements to follow and obey our desires, but little on ethical living — big on obeying cravings but little on following our conscience — big on surrendering to self-destructive passions, but little on living by historic moral principles.
We are constantly being taught to define ourselves by our desires, rather than to control our desires and keep them within moral standards. However, without self-imposed limits on our desires, we will self-destruct.
Conscience is a great tool. Deep inside we each know what’s right and what’s wrong. The question is: Will we obey our conscience rather than our cravings? Unfortunately, America and the Western world is saying “No” to that question.
