Perhaps A Pastor Should Oversee, Not Direct Church Services

–“Overseer” — that’s how the word for Christian leader is translated in some versions of the New Testament.  That translation fits Jesus’ command that leaders be “servants.”
–A great example of an overseer is a basketball or football official.  He/she does not take center stage, but stays in the background and watches (but doesn’t control) the action.  If there is a problem, he/she throws a flag or blows a whistle, stops the action, corrects the problem, and then turns the game back over to those participating in the game.  As a true servant, he/she gets out-of-the-way and allows those he serves to be in the spotlight.
–If pastor’s exercised oversight instead of control, the Holy Spirit would have the freedom to do whatever He wants to do in church!  And that would be life transforming!
–So where can you find such a church?  If you live in Nashville check out The Salvation Army Berry Street Worship Center, 225 Berry St., 37207 on Sunday mornings at 10:45.

About Steve Simms

I like to look and think outside the box. In college I encountered Jesus Christ and I have been passionate about trying to get to know Him better ever since. My wife and I long to see the power and passion of the first Christ-followers come to life in our time. I have written a book about our experiences in non-traditional church, called, "Beyond Church: An Invitation To Experience The Lost Word Of The Bible--Ekklesia." If you need encouragement, search for: Elephants Encouraging The Room and/or check out my Amazon author page. Thank you!
