Wretched me

“O wretched man that I am.”

I woke up with these thoughts and responses running through my mind this morning:

Thought: When I’m discouraged.

Response: Lord Jesus, fill my heart!

Thought: When I’m sad.

Response: Lord Jesus, fill my heart!

Thought: When I’m tempted.

Response: Lord Jesus, fill my heart!

Thought: When I’m hurting.

Response: Lord Jesus, fill my heart!

Thought: When I’m busy and distracted.

Response: Lord Jesus, fill my heart!

Thought: When I want to act out.

Response: Lord Jesus, fill my heart!

Thought: All the time and everywhere.

Response: Lord Jesus, fill my heart!

Thought: Christ in you, the hope of glory.

Response: Lord Jesus, fill my heart!

Thought: Hunger and thirst for righteousness.

Response: Lord Jesus, fill my heart!

Thought: Be filled with the Spirit.

Response: Lord Jesus, fill my heart!

Thought: Pray without ceasing.

Response: Lord Jesus, fill my heart!

(Add additional thoughts and responses in the comments.)

Your heart isn’t a battery
Able to leave the charging station
And pridefully survive
With its own power.
If you want to thrive
And be spiritually alive,
You need to strive
To keep your heart open
To the risen Jesus
And His amazing grace.
Never depart
From your deep need
To continually pray,
“Lord Jesus, fill my heart.”

It’s hard to be
A part-time Christian,
Checking in and out
While being driven about
By our feelings and desires
Unwilling to faithfully do
What God inspires.
When we try to adore
The living Jesus
Through a revolving door
We spin out of His control
And often drop
Our faith on the floor.

About Steve Simms

I like to look and think outside the box. In college I encountered Jesus Christ and I have been passionate about trying to get to know Him better ever since. My wife and I long to see the power and passion of the first Christ-followers come to life in our time. I have written a book about our experiences in non-traditional church, called, "Beyond Church: An Invitation To Experience The Lost Word Of The Bible--Ekklesia." If you need encouragement, search for: Elephants Encouraging The Room and/or check out my Amazon author page. Thank you!
