I Don’t Have Freedom of Speech

Daily writing prompt
You get some great, amazingly fantastic news. What’s the first thing you do?

I don’t have the freedom of speech. When something happens, I’ve been told to express gratitude. I’ve been told to say it out loud and say it to a crowd. I’ve been told to verbally express thanks not only to people I appreciate, but to everyone. Thank you so much for reading my blog and sharing it with others.

Why don’t I have the freedom of speech? Because someone who has captured my heart now tells me what to say. His name is Jesus. It’s not only me. All true Christians are called to surrender our freedom of speech to Christ.

That’s why true Christians no longer have the freedom of speech. We are told to:

* Not lie. (Colossians 3:9)
* Speak evil of no one. (Titus 3:2)
* “Preach the Gospel.” (Mark 16:15)
* Be “led by the Spirit.” (Romans 8:14)
* “Bless those who curse you.” (Luke 6:28)
* Continually quote the Bible. (Joshua 1:8)
* “Speak the truth in love.” (Ephesians 4:15)
* Not repay insult with insult. (1 Peter 3:9)
* “Let your conversation be always full of grace.” (Colossians 4:6)
* Make the words of your mouth acceptable in God’s sight. (Psalm 19:14)
* “Keep your tongue from evil and your lips from telling lies.” (Psalm 34:13)
* Not let “any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths.” (Ephesians 4:29)
* Understand that you will have to answer for every careless word. (Matthew 12:36-37)
* “Continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of your lips that openly profess His name.” (Hebrews 13:15)

The calling for Christ-followers isn’t to say what we want to say in order to express our own desires, feelings, or opinions. It’s not to promote or defend political positions. It is to demonstrate the love, power, and presence of the risen Jesus through all of our words and actions.

Only allow seeds to be planted in your heart and mind that will grow inside you to produce a harvest of righteous thinking and uplifting words that empower you toward right living. Repeatedly resist, reject, repel, and uproot every seed of unrighteousness that tries to enter your mind and heart.

The Kingdom of God

God’s government
Is Christ in you
Telling you
What to say
And to do.

About Steve Simms

I like to look and think outside the box. In college I encountered Jesus Christ and I have been passionate about trying to get to know Him better ever since. My wife and I long to see the power and passion of the first Christ-followers come to life in our time. I have written a book about our experiences in non-traditional church, called, "Beyond Church: An Invitation To Experience The Lost Word Of The Bible--Ekklesia." If you need encouragement, search for: Elephants Encouraging The Room and/or check out my Amazon author page. Thank you!
