I Didn’t Have The Courage To Tebow — Do You?

This morning (the day of the Broncos/Patriots playoff game), I worked out at the Y in Nashville.  Afterwards I was walking around the indoor track to cool down.  I passed a large TV in the corner of the room (right in front of the treadmills) a couple of times and noticed a story and video of a sinking ocean liner.

As I approached the television on my third lap, these words came to my mind:  “You need to kneel down in front of that TV and pray for the people who were on that ship.”  I’d like to say that I promptly obeyed, but I didn’t.  I increased my pace and walked right by the television set, quietly praying for the people in my mind.

Now I know something.  It takes great courage to kneel and pray like Tim Tebow does.  I chickened out this morning.  But I feel like God will ask me again to tebow.  The next time God prompts me, I hope I am ready to look fear and intimidation in the face and bow my knees and pray (wherever I am; and whoever is around me).

I think that Tim’s example is a strong call for all sincere followers of Jesus to overcome whatever has gagged us and has kept us quiet about our faith, and to openly and publicly begin to talk and to live what we believe about Christ in the real world.

If you ever wonder about Tim Tebow’s sincerity, here’s a great article to read:  http://espn.go.com/espn/story/_/id/7455943/believing-tim-tebow

About Steve Simms

I like to look and think outside the box. In college I encountered Jesus Christ and I have been passionate about trying to get to know Him better ever since. My wife and I long to see the power and passion of the first Christ-followers come to life in our time. I have written a book about our experiences in non-traditional church, called, "Beyond Church: An Invitation To Experience The Lost Word Of The Bible--Ekklesia." If you need encouragement, search for: Elephants Encouraging The Room and/or check out my Amazon author page. Thank you!
