Perhaps the church can learn from family . . .

The Bible teaches that church is family — a body of believers bound together in spiritual kinship.  Church is hearts connected in love for Christ and for one another.   The Biblical concept of church creates an atmosphere of community — mutual concern, caring, and affection.

When a family gathers, it is seldom formal.  Except for weddings and/or funerals, families usually meet in unprogrammed ways.  Family members are free to spontaneously flow in conversation and interaction with one another.

Much teaching happens in families, but little of it is in the form of lecture.  (Most parents have discovered that lecture is not very effective.)  Instead, parents teach more like Jesus did, by modeling thinking, speaking, and behaving.  All their interaction with their children is teaching and it comes out of real life happenings rather than from systematic lesson plans.

Can a church meeting function like an informal family gathering.  Yes indeed.  Read Acts and see family at work.
