Rigid intellectualism is the demise of spirituality. You can’t intellectualize spiritual life. When analyzed and categorized and neatly filed in the back of the brain, spiritual life dies on the vine.
Spiritual life freely flows from God through humble human hearts. It was never meant to be made into mincemeat by the mind.
And now a few quotations:
“There should be no dependence upon the mere knowledge of the head in religious matters. There is no saving acquaintance with divine things to be obtained without the experimental teaching of the Spirit of Truth which brings to contrition.” –Samuel Tuke, 1784
“The head is over educated at the expense of the heart.” –Howard H. Brinton
“For the secularists, God and theology are the playthings of the mind. For the Christian, God is real.” –Harry Blamires
And one more from an unknown source: “There is 18 inches between Heaven and Hell — the difference between the heart and the mind.”
