A New (Emergent and/or Organic) Name For Christianity: Christimacy

These ideas came to my mind during the praise and worship meeting at The Salvation Army Berry Street this morning.  I shared them with the believers gathered there.

The one word that most describes the difference between the Old and New Testaments: Intimacy!
* Intimacy between God and individuals because of the blood of Jesus — “God with us;” “Christ in you the hope of glory.”
* Intimacy between individuals. “He broke down the wall of hostility that separated us.” “Love one another.”

Biblical Christianity is not a doctrine, a creed, a teaching, a belief system.  It is intimacy — the act of being intimate with God and man.

This intimacy was lost in the Garden of Eden.  Mankind was separated (alienated) from God and the way back into the Garden was blocked.  Mankind’s approach to God became regulated, distant, formal, religious.  Mankind was also separated (alienated) from one another.

Yet Christ, through His death and resurrection, restored the intimacy.  Therefore I propose a new name (a more emergent and organic name) for Christianity:

About Steve Simms

I like to look and think outside the box. In college I encountered Jesus Christ and I have been passionate about trying to get to know Him better ever since. My wife and I co-lead a non-traditional expression of the body of Christ in Nashville based on open participation and Spirit-led sharing. We long to see the power and passion of the first Christ-followers come to life in our time. I have written a book about our experiences called, "Beyond Church: An Invitation To Experience The Lost Word Of The Bible--Ekklesia" that is available in Kindle & paperback @ http://amzn.to/2nCr5dP

    Hi Steve,
You have made some wonderful expressions in this post. I enjoyed the read very much! I do wonder what would happen if the New Name were shortened from Christ-plus-ianity or Christ-plus-imacy to Christ. What would that mean in regards to our Oneness with Him and also the Oneness of Him in one another if the only name that all of us would accept is Jesus Christ?

Thanks again, some great thoughts here!

Interesting observation, Kat. Thanks for the comment and the encouragement.

Thinking about it, I don’t know how believers in Christ can call ourselves “Christ.” We are His body, but we are not Him.

Oh my! I didn’t conceive the thought that you might take the my words in that manner. No, that is not at all what I intended to convey. In other words, take no human created name or title for ourselves, but focus on Christ. Title only put the focus on us instead of Christ Himself. I obviously need to be more straight forward with my words. Sorry about the miscommunication, I should have been more clear.
