Why Is Depression Rampant In America

Why is depression rampant in America, a country known for freedom and prosperity? Perhaps the answer is in this quotation . . .
“Many people look out into a meaningless world in which there is no afterlife, where all their projects are doomed to extinction, where all relationships end in death, where sudden death may strike at any moment, and faithfulness is a rare quality. The person who does not feel depressed under such circumstances is not very bright. Depression is normal and natural in a meaningless world. For such depression there is only one cure, finding a center of powerful, meaningful love at the center of the universe.” –Morton T. Kelsey

The cure for depression? Jesus’ love and Presence!

About Steve Simms

I like to look and think outside the box. In college I encountered Jesus Christ and I have been passionate about trying to get to know Him better ever since. My wife and I long to see the power and passion of the first Christ-followers come to life in our time. I have written a book about our experiences in non-traditional church, called, "Beyond Church: An Invitation To Experience The Lost Word Of The Bible--Ekklesia." If you need encouragement, search for: Elephants Encouraging The Room and/or check out my Amazon author page. Thank you!

There Is a reason for depression that few even mention. It is a lack of focus – on the truth. Jesus teaches that it the “truth that sets a person free”. Unfortunately, we stop to examine all of the less obvious reasons and never get to the heart of the matter. And we – who dare to call ourselves Christians are more at fault in this regard than others. Most have never examined the truth, but as we have learned by it, life becomes – as Peter expressed it, “..joy inexpressible and full of glory.”

I had never heard of this man although I have discovered he was well known in Christian circles. I did not discover the quote you offer – in part, nor other. Would you mind finishing it for me. Thanks.
