Many Christian organizations, institutions, and churches fly both a Christian flag and their nation’s flag. Which flag should be at the top of the flag pole?
As a young Boy Scout I was taught that the national flag should be at the top of the pole in the position of greater honor. However, after becoming a Christian and reading the Bible, my views were changed.
All countries are temporary. They can last a few years or hundreds (maybe even thousands) of years, but all nations will come to an end. The kingdom of God, however, is never-ending.
All nations have faults. No human nation is completely just. Many, if not all nations, have committed atrocities. However, the kingdom of God is perfectly just and is infinitely greater than any human nation. And all nations (and all the people in them) will eventually answer to God and the authority of His kingdom.
So if someone flies their national flag and also a Christian flag, which flag should be at the top of the pole? Of course, the flag of the greater authority. (Wouldn’t that be the Christian flag?)
So why do Christian churches, institutions, and organizations, reverse the order and put their nation’s flag in the supreme place and the Christian flag underneath it? Here’s something to think about: Could recognizing the authority of a nation above the authority of God be a form of idolatry?
Is Jesus the Lord? Or is our nation our lord?

Very good question for us all to think about. God comes out on top of everything in my life today. For many years I knew nothing, and didn’t want to be on this horrible planet, but in God’s time HE lifted me up and set me on the path to him. MAY he lift us all up in his time to see the beauty of a life lived in his unconditional LOVE. Deep down in every man, woman, and child is the fundimental idea of GOD. It’s there because HE put it there. Thank God for his love.
Excellent points, Donna!
Our banner is not tan earthly nation’s flag, nor what is called the Christian flag, but a Person whose name is Jesus Christ our Lord, Himself.
True, however, if an organization or denomination makes a “Christian flag” and flies it with a nation’s flag, shouldn’t that flag that represents God fly above the flag of any nation?
Well my brother, only Jesus Christ is the representation of God. All the fullness was pleased to dwell in Him, and He is the image of God. So I can only answer your question with the same, Jesus Christ alone is our banner, no however is acceptable, to me anyway.
