The Power of Spirit-Led Potluck!

The Power Of Potluck!
I love a spiritual potluck
Where everybody’s free to share something —
A prayer, a Scripture, an insight,
A short teaching, a prayer request —
(Without any one person having to do it all)
And it spontaneously flows together
With lots of love for one another,
Creating an interactive experience
Of the living God with us!

when you come together potluck

Experience the power of Spirit-led potluck every Sunday morning at 10:45 at The Salvation Army Berry Street, 225 Berry St., Nashville, Tennessee 37207 — where instead of a 1-man sermon, everyday people show and tell what God has done!

A Petition 4 Holy-Spirit-Led Intuition! (Let’s Re-Intuitionize Church Meetings!)

Should We Re-Intuitionize Church Meetings?
–Jesus established the church on Spirit-intuition. When Peter recognized Jesus as the Christ (the Messiah), Jesus said: “This was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven.” And Jesus added: “On this rock I will build my church.”
–A reading of the book of Acts shows that the early church was highly intuitionized. We continually read how the Holy Spirit spoke directly to them and how they did what the Spirit told them to.
–Paul taught: ” For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.”
–Paul also described the early church as being intuitional when said: “When you come together, each of you has a hymn, or a word of instruction, a revelation, a tongue or an interpretation.”
–However, as the first Christ-followers died, intuitional church meetings were replaced with pastor-controlled, institutional, organized, scripted, and programmed church meetings.
??? So should we re-intuitionize the church? Yes! Jesus, help us to courageously obey the command of Your mother to the servants at the wedding at Cana: “Whatever He says to you, do it.”

intuition

One way to re-intuitionalize church meetings is to make them doer-sensitive.

–Doer-sensitive church — church meetings that allow people to do what the Spirit tells them to do, as they one another.
— Hearer-sensitive church — people have to sit and hear the same man speak week after week.
(“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.” –book of James)

Experience doer-sensitive, intuitional church meetings every Sunday morning @ The Salvation Army Berry Street, 225 Berry St., Nashville, TN 37207 — 10:45 am.

Better than a sermon?

What’s more effective than a sermon?

sermon quote G

Should a pastor be a sage on a stage or a guide along side? (See 1 Corinthians 14:26.)

sage on a stage

sermon quote F

100 sermons?
We believe that instead of having people sit through 100 sermons, it’s much more effective to create an environment during church meetings where people feel loved, confident, and empowered to step out in an act of obedience to the prompting of the Holy Spirit. The results are always amazing when everyday obey the leading of the Spirit. Come see for yourself on Sundays at 10:45, 225 Berry St., Nashville 37207 at The Salvation Army Berry Street.

Seeing Selma Stirred My Spirit!

Seeing the movie, Selma, stirred my soul!  It made me weep. It received an ongoing standing ovation from a theater packed with both blacks and whites in Nashville!

Selma strikingly portrays a major turning point in the Civil Rights Movement during a three-month period in 1965, when Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. courageously led a campaign, in the face of violent opposition, in Selma, Alabama, seeking equal voting rights for all. Against all odds, Dr. King successfully led a march from Selma to Montgomery, resulting in the Voting Rights Act of 1965, signed by President Lyndon Johnson. Director Ava DuVernays beautifully portrays the stirring story of how King (David Oyelowo) and other people inspired by their faith, both blacks and whites, united in the movement and prompted change that overthrew much of America’s overt and legal racism.

“One dream can change the world!”  Selma makes it clear that King’s dream, calling, and courage came from God.  The film is full of Gospel Music, Bible verses, and praying in public.  At one point, when King is struggling with obedience to his calling, he phones famous Gospel singer, Mahalia Jackson, and asks her to sing a spiritual song to him. Through out the film, King is shown preaching. Many scenes are set in church services.

King’s dream deeply touches my heart’s desire to see racial injustice and hurt completely healed in America.  As Ferguson, Missouri has shown us, we’ve still got a mountain top to climb!  Here are ten blog posts I’ve written about racial justice in America:  My Top Ten Blog Posts For Black History Month.  And here are 12 blog posts on slavery: 12 Years A Slave — 12 Blogs On Slavery.

Let’s all preach a sermon together! (When church is organized by the Spirit!)

Ever feel like you need more than a sermon?

lightening sermon

Experience God’s spiritual lightening bolts and “aha moments” in an enlightening church meeting based on open sharing and testimonies at The Salvation Army Berry Street, 225 Berry St., Nashville 37207 on Sundays @ 10:45 am.

sermon quote A

When church meets and allows everyday people to minister to one another as prompted by the Spirit, you get to actually “see a sermon.”  Rather than passively hearing one man preach, you hear many people share their heart and it all amazingly comes together in a beautiful sermon right before your eyes!

After all . . .

sermon quote C

sermon quote E

As ordinary Christ-followers meet together to share their walk with Christ with one another, they are no longer dependent on a 1-man sermon from the front of the room, but many “sermons” come forth in the meeting as everyday people show and tell what God has done! –Experience this with us every Sunday morning at Berry Street!

Church services–a steel rod or modeling clay?

steel rod

modeling clay

Traditional church is often programmed like a steel rod (unbendable).
However, participatory church meetings, like modeling clay, can be changed on the spot, by the living God, into one-of-a-kind works of art.

Behold God’s animation — His claymation!  Watch an unprogrammed church service be changed by God on the spot by God at The Salvation Army Berry Street, 225 Berry St., Nashville, Tennessee 37207 on Sunday mornings at 10:45.

Believe–Christ is like a fighter jet!

Christ is like a helium balloon in my heart — always lifting me up!

Christ is like a fighter jet, soaring through my heart and shooting down enemy thoughts, emotions, attitudes, and behaviors.

Christ is like a rocket lifting me beyond the gravitational pull of defeat, discouragement, and doubt and releasing me into orbit around the loving presence of God.

Christ teaches me to:  Be. Leave.  (Be holy. Leave sin.)

Je suis un Salutiste! (I am a Salvationist!)

(I am a Salvationist!)

A terrorist wants to fill people with fear, anxiety, and intimidation.
A Salvationist wants to set people free from fear, anxiety, and intimidation.
(Salvationist — 1) a person who preaches salvation, deliverance from sin, and the means of obtaining it; 2) a member of The Salvation Army.)

Terrorists want to turn the world upside down through people who are committed to intimidation, hatred, and violent action.
–Christ wants to turn the world upside down through people who are committed to humility, love, and non-violent action.
(“They drew Jason and certain brethren [Christ-followers] unto the rulers of the city, crying, ‘These that have turned the world upside down are come here also; whom Jason has received: and these all do contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, one Jesus.'” —Acts 17:6-7)
