The Most Significant Big Bang

What was the most significant Big Bang

In the history of the universe?

The sound of the hammer

Driving the nails

Into the hands and feet

Of the Son of God!

Bang . . . Bang . . . Bang . . . Bang!

Why R Believers Brainwashed Into Applauding All Sorts Of Ungodliness?

3rd time through this month

Reading the Book of Acts

How’d those Acts believers

Turn the world upside down

While today we spiritually waste away

Brainwashed into applauding

All sorts of ungodliness?

1 thing I noticed —

Acts believers were told:

“You have filled Jerusalem with your teaching.”

Perhaps we should fill facebook, twitter,

All the other social media,

Our jobs, our churches, our schools,

Our conversations, our texts, and our lives,

With testimonies and proclamations

Of what God has done in our lives?

What ya think?

Proof Found For The Existence Of God

Here are some ways that God actively intervenes in my life and daily gives me proof of His reality:

* He frequently wakes me up around 5:30 am with a new blog post running through my mind even though I personally prefer to sleep later.  (This blog is an example.)

* God often puts thoughts in my mind that seem to come from out of nowhere.  When I have the courage to act on His thoughts, the results are amazing.

* He rearranges my circumstances every day in ways that look like coincidence, but the frequency of such interventions are way beyond the statistical possibility of mere coincidence.

* God comforts me and gives me strength, especially when my own strength has been exhausted.

* When I pray with someone (even a stranger) God puts a strong love for them in my heart.

* God convicts me when I think, say, or do something wrong.  He won’t let me get by with it.  I have to stop and ask His forgiveness and apologize to anyone I have offended (even when I don’t want to).

* He forgives me when I ask Him to and He removes guilt and condemnation off my life.

* He has physically healed my body several times.

* God has miraculously kept me from accidents numerous times.

* Through out my Christian walk, God has had me on His reading plan.  Several times a month I come across a book in an odd way, that addresses the specifics of my life at the moment.  This has happened way to often to be coincidence.

* God has shut doors in my life that I have desperately wanted open, and kept them shut no matter how hard I tried to open them or complained about their being shut.

* He sometimes opens doors that I never dreamed of and puts me in unusual opportunities and circumstances (like starting and leading a non-traditional, multi-racial church for The Salvation Army in Nashville).

*  He sometimes puts a picture in my mind (what some people call a vision) that shows me something amazing or deeply touches my heart or helps someone else when I share it with them.

* Numerous times, when I have been in need, God has brought unexpected provision to me in the most unusual ways.

* When I pray and/or testify about God, I find words and ideas flowing out of me that I never thought of before.

* When I read the Bible, God makes the words come alive and they burn in my heart.  He fills me with passion and love for Him and others.

* Many years ago God gave me the spiritual gift of praying in languages that I don’t know (which I use very often).  When I pray this way I am overwhelmed by an intense awareness of God’s Presence and power.

* God has answered so many of my prayers that I could never count them.

* He has set me free from tormenting thoughts and wrongful behaviors that I couldn’t stop on my own.

* God gives me peace in trouble, joy in difficulty, and victory in what feels and/or looks like defeat.

* God has convinced me of His reality and of His love for me and my for fellow humans, beyond any doubt.  He has proved Himself to me!

Top 10 Ways To Quench The Holy Spirit

“Quench not the Spirit” is one of the most disobeyed scriptures in the New Testament.  So how do we quench the Spirit.  Here are the Top Ten ways.

10) We teach people that God isn’t speaking to human beings nowadays.

9) We freely indulge our desires to the point that our heart gets so hard that we no longer hear what God is saying to us.

8) We tell the Holy Spirit that we will do what He wants later, or when we are older.

7) We intentionally disobey the direct commands of Scripture.

6) When we are with believers, we pretend that we are better Christians than we really are.

5) We ignore the guidance of that our conscience gives us.

4) We care more about what other people think about us than we care what God thinks about us.

3) We believe that because of grace it doesn’t matter if we obey God or not.

2) We let our pride keep us from doing anything that we consider to be humbling.

1)  We force people to quench the Spirit by programming church meetings to the point that no one but the preacher or someone on the program is expected or allowed to initiate anything in the meeting.

Here’s a quote from C.T. Studd:  “How little chance the Holy Spirit has nowadays. The churches and missionary societies have so bound Him in red tape that they practically ask Him to sit in a corner while they do the work themselves.”

A Type Of Christianity That’s More Exciting Than Sports, Rock Concerts, & Parties Put Together!

For me, the most amazing book in the Bible is the book of Acts.  It is full of action and advancement of the Good News about Jesus Christ.  Acts shows the early followers of Jesus, unlike the Christians of today, turning the world upside down.

Everywhere the followers of Christ went, there was either a revival or a riot.  Those passionate believers could not be ignored — brushed aside as irrelevant.  Their words and lifestyle was polarizing, calling forth a response.

Acts is not an aberration.  It is normal Christianity.  The deviation from God’s norm for His people didn’t happen in the book of Acts.  The aberration happened afterwards.  After the earliest believers died, the fullness of their zeal for God was not passed on.  Over generations, faith became intellectual rather than Spirit-led; traditional rather than heart-felt; a small appendage of life rather than life’s all-consuming passion.

So nowadays we live in an abnormal faith environment — Sunday-go-to-meeting, doctrine over lifestyle, lethargic liturgy rather than fiery faith.  Meanwhile the handbook for anointed action and advancement surrounds us, buried in the Bibles that abound in our country.

Millions now reject Christianity.  Millions are leaving churches every year because they find them boring, uninspiring, and tradition bound.  Yet perhaps those who reject faith in Christ are unaware that they are rejecting an abnormal form of Christianity and that they are not rejecting the real deal.

So if you have rejected Christ (or church) based on what you have seen and/or read about church and the people who call themselves Christians (nowadays or in history), you have rejected a faded copy rather than the real thing.

To be fair, you need to learn about authentic Christianity.  The place to do that is the book of Acts.  It is a short book.  I challenge you to have an open mind and read Acts today! Also, here’s a link to my handbook on how to live out the book of Acts today.

The Most Neglected Spiritual Truth . . . The Most Ignored Voice

What is the most neglected spiritual truth taught in the New Testament?  I believe that it is the idea of being actively and personally led by God’s Spirit.

Unless we are led by the Holy Spirit, we are just wandering about in our own human programming and desires.  Paul put it this way:  “All who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.”

Is the Spirit actively leading you day by day?  Or are you making you own way?

What is the most ignored voice in the world?  The voice of God speaking in the human heart.

Here’s a quote from God:  “Be still and know that I am God.”

The Tim Tebow Denver/Pittsburg 3:16 Stats, Berry Street, & God

What do you do when you encounter incredible statistical improbabilities (wow, that’s 3 words with 14 syllables)?  1) Write them off as coincidence?  Or 2) Seriously ponder the mystery and awe behind them?

For example, have you read or heard about some of the amazing stats for the Denver Broncos and Pittsburg Steelers post season game?  As the University of Florida quarterback, Tim Tebow used to wear “John 3:16” in eye black under his eyes, however this is not allowed in the NFL.  After the game, Tebow had thrown for 316 yards, averaged 31.6 yards per pass, and the Nielson rating was 31.6.

The odds against all of that are all but impossible.  If it was a coincidence, it was a once in a lifetime one (however, in my life, those incredible statistical improbabilities are beaten not just once in my life, but many times every year).  If you seriously ponder such mysteries (laying aside any prejudice against the idea of something supernatural) you realize that there has to be something beyond nature at work.  Perhaps, God is using Tebow and his stats to say “Wake up!  I am real!  Surrender your life and heart to me!”

Here’s another example of incredible statistical improbabilities.  For more than 5 years my wife and I and others have been prayer walking in the McFerrin Park Neighborhood of East Nashville carrying The Salvation Army Flag which stands for the blood of Jesus and the fire of the Holy Spirit.  We pray for a mighty move of God to wake up the neighborhood to the point that people feel God’s convicting presence, even if they just drive by.

Four years ago, The Salvation Army asked us to start a non-traditional church in a chapel located right in the center of the neighborhood.  No one knew what to name the new church which is located on Berry Street.  Finally our Area Commander suggested calling it Berry Street Worship Center.  We felt led to have Sunday morning meetings where people are free to testify and share as led by the Holy Spirit and God has done and is doing amazing things in and through many people.

Yesterday, we felt prompted to stop at Parnassus Books, a new, independent bookstore in Nashville.  While browsing, I saw a book that told how various streets in Nashville got their name.

I looked up Berry Street.  It was named for John Berry McFerrin, a nationally known Methodist leader and passionate lover of Christ.  My mouth dropped.  How could both the street and the neighborhood that God has had us to pour out our hearts and life for during the past 5 years, be named for a man with a similar passion?  What are the odds against that?

When I got home and goodled John Berry McFerrin.  Here is some of his bio:  He was born in 1807 in Middle Tennessee.  For many years he was secretary of the Board of Missions of the Methodist Episcopal Church South.  He also edited the Nashville Christian Advocate and was the agent for its books.  McFerrin wrote The History of Methodism in Tennessee.  He was a man of wide influence in his denomination and was a delegate to the ecumenical conference in London in 1881.  He frequently wrote articles for both religious and secular periodicals.

One writer describes camp meetings that were led by John Berry McFerrin this way:  “Entire neighborhoods and sections of the country were taken.  The attention of the thoughtless was arrested, the obduracy (hardness of heart) of the wicked was overcome, the prejudices of ignorance and bigotry were removed, the consciences of the assembled multitudes were aroused and their sensibilities stirred to the depths , and in the sweep of the religious excitement, opposition broke down and many turned to the Lord.”  O, Lord, do it again on Berry Street in McFerrin Park!

Here’s a quote from McFerrin:  “The Christian religion does not consist in mere forms and ceremonies and outward observances.  In a word, it is what we call experience — a glorious realization in our hearts that God’s Spirit bears witness with our spirit that we are the children of God.”

When we gather at Berry Street on Sunday mornings, we encourage people to listen to God and then say and/or do whatever He tells them to.  Here’s another quotation from McFerrin:  “It is a fearful thing to resist the Spirit of God and fail to do the work to which we are distinctly moved.”

At Berry Street, we have seen Jesus miraculously set several people free from bondage to drugs.  John Berry McFerrin said this:  “I thought of the poor man who had a legion of devils, and Jesus came along and cast them all out at once! That’s His way.”

Coincidence?  Or is God confirming the vision He has burned in our hearts for McFerrin Park?

I Didn’t Have The Courage To Tebow — Do You?

This morning (the day of the Broncos/Patriots playoff game), I worked out at the Y in Nashville.  Afterwards I was walking around the indoor track to cool down.  I passed a large TV in the corner of the room (right in front of the treadmills) a couple of times and noticed a story and video of a sinking ocean liner.

As I approached the television on my third lap, these words came to my mind:  “You need to kneel down in front of that TV and pray for the people who were on that ship.”  I’d like to say that I promptly obeyed, but I didn’t.  I increased my pace and walked right by the television set, quietly praying for the people in my mind.

Now I know something.  It takes great courage to kneel and pray like Tim Tebow does.  I chickened out this morning.  But I feel like God will ask me again to tebow.  The next time God prompts me, I hope I am ready to look fear and intimidation in the face and bow my knees and pray (wherever I am; and whoever is around me).

I think that Tim’s example is a strong call for all sincere followers of Jesus to overcome whatever has gagged us and has kept us quiet about our faith, and to openly and publicly begin to talk and to live what we believe about Christ in the real world.

If you ever wonder about Tim Tebow’s sincerity, here’s a great article to read:  http://espn.go.com/espn/story/_/id/7455943/believing-tim-tebow

The Most Important Tim Tebow Quote

As an NFL quarterback with the Denver Broncos, a first round NFL draft choice, a Heisman Trophy winner, and a former University of Florida quarterback, Tim Tebow has been interviewed many times.

What is the most important thing that he has ever said?  Here’s my nomination for the most important Tim Tebow quotation ever:

‎”Make sure that your number one goal is to have a relationship with Jesus Christ. It will change your life. It will give it meaning. It will give it a purpose and it will give you a pathway.” –Tim Tebow

That’s a quote that everybody needs to pay attention to.  And bold believer, Tim, doesn’t just talk about Jesus, he lives it to the point that he is admired by millions.  He has even had an act of gratitude and worship named after him.  Humbly bowing in prayer is now being called tebowing.

Read more about it in Tebowing Is Now An Official Word.

Also here is a video about tebowing called, Trying To Get The Courage To Tebow:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WVcwAwwpaBk&feature=relmfu

And here is another great Tim Tebow quotation:  “If you’re married, and you have a wife, and you really love your wife, is it good enough to only say to your wife, I love her, the day you get married?  Or should you tell her every single day when you wake up and have the opportunity? And that’s how I feel about my relationship with Jesus Christ. It is the most important thing in my life, so every opportunity I have to tell Him I love Him, or I’m given an opportunity to shout Him out on national TV, I’m going to take that opportunity.”
