About Steve Simms

I like to look and think outside the box. In college I encountered Jesus Christ and I have been passionate about trying to get to know Him better ever since. My wife and I long to see the power and passion of the first Christ-followers come to life in our time. I have written a book about our experiences in non-traditional church, called, "Beyond Church: An Invitation To Experience The Lost Word Of The Bible--Ekklesia." If you need encouragement, search for: Elephants Encouraging The Room and/or check out my Amazon author page. Thank you!

One-man sermons & the John the Baptist leadership principle

One-word sentences/One-man sermons. Limiting conversation to one-word sentences quenches communication. Example: Person A) Hello.  Person B) Hi.  A) Going?  B) Yes. A)  When?  B) Now.  A) Where?  B) There.   A) How?  B) Walking.  A) Good.  B) Thanks.  A) Bye.  … Continue reading →

A Sunday soliloquy may satisfy some, but I love to hear God’s Heavenly harmony as ordinary people, led by the Spirit, let their voices blend as they testify and God’s glory fills a church meeting.

Would God Tell A Preacher To Stop Preaching?

I love to preach, however a few years ago God told me to stop preaching and instead,  to let ordinary believers show and tell what God has done! So I stopped, yet still I greatly miss it.  By the time … Continue reading →

Better Caught Than Taught

Open sharing and testimonies in a church service create a spiritual contagion that spreads from heart-to-heart, igniting passionate love for the living, resurrected Jesus Christ. Faith in Christ (like the early Pentecostals used to say) is more caught than taught. … Continue reading →

What Can Jesus Do?

What can Jesus do today — in the 21st Century? If Jesus is still alive and truly present when believers gather in His name (like the Bible says He is), then He can still . . . * transform lives; … Continue reading →

The so-called “objectivity” of the material world is descending into nothingness. However, when you encounter truth in your heart, you bump into inner objectivity that makes facts about the physical world look fickle, fading, and fleeting. God’s speaking within you. You listening?

A notebook, a smartphone, and a person walked into a . . .

A notebook, a smartphone, and a person walked into a restaurant. The notebook said, “I’m getting on Wi-Fi!” The smartphone said, “I’m making some calls!” The person, feeling rather lonely and depressed, ordered drink after drink. –The moral of the … Continue reading →
