Why Settle For Microsoft’s “Surface” When There’s A Tablet Deep In Your Heart?

Today Steve Ballmer, Microsoft’s CEO, introduced “Surface” their new tablet computer.  But why settle for “Surface” when there’s a tablet computer deep in your own heart.  It comes as standard equipment with human beings.

The Bible teaches that the Spirit of God downloads His words “on tablets of human hearts.”  (Check it out — 2 Corinthians 3:3.)  To connect with God, you have to go deeper than the surface to the depths of your heart.

So pull back the cover from your heart’s tablet.  Click on God’s apps and marvel at what He shows you.

Alternative Names For Organic Church

In the last few years, many books have been written about organic church by people like Neil Cole, Milt Rodriguez, Tony and Felicity Dale, Frank Viola, Wolfgang Simpson, Jon Zens, and many others.  I have read many of the books.  Some writers claim that they have an exclusive right to use the term organic church, others are more open.

The truth is, organic church has been around since the beginning of Christianity.  (However, until recent times it was persistently persecuted and/or destroyed by the institutional church.)  The one place where the New Testament gives direct instructions on how to have church (I Corinthians 14:26) describes what nowadays is called organic church.  Here are some alternative names for organic church:

Participatory church — allows the people present to openly share in the meeting what God has put on their heart.

Spirit-led church — gives people the opportunity to say and/or do what the Holy Spirit tells them to.

Show and tell church — lets people show and tell what God has done in their lives.

Support group style church — is set up like a support group with people sharing their hearts with one another and encouraging one another.

Simple church — has put aside the trappings of tradition and lets church happen as people come together and share.

Sermon-free church — has no featured sermon by one individual because everybody shares teachings, Scriptures, and words of encouragement.

Tag team church — allows the Holy Spirit to “tag” one person after another to share.

Interactive church — fulfills the “one-anothers” of the New Testament by allowing people to minister to one another in the church meeting.

Unprogrammed church — a term used by Quakers to describe their style of organic church where they gather and wait for the Holy Spirit to prompt people to share something.

Open church — the name for organic church used in the book The Open Church by James H. Rutz.

Hatha church — based on the Scripture, I Corinthians 14:26, in the King James Version:  “When you come together, every one of you hath a . . .”

Improv church — based on the Holy Spirit’s improvisation as He spontaneously gives various people words to share in the meeting.

Non-church —  an organic church movement begun in Japan about 100 years ago.

Non-traditional church — a church that openly breaks out of the mold and seeks to function by New Testament concepts rather than by traditional religious ones.

After writing this blog post this morning I went for a prayer walk in the McFerrin Park Neighborhood of East Nashville carrying The Salvation Army Flag.  When I was on Dickerson Road a guy yelled from across the street:  “What’s that flag?”  He then ran through the traffic and came to my side of the street.  I got to explain to him that the flag represents the blood of Jesus and the fire of the Holy Spirit.

I then told him about the organic way we have church at The Salvation Army Berry Street Worship Center.  He replied:  “That’s hands-on church.”  Wow.  Still another name for organic church!

If you are in Nashville, experience hands-on church with us at 225 Berry St., 37207, on Sundays @ 10:45 am. & Thursdays @ 6:30 pm.

Churches Are Shrinking–Is Christianity Fading Away Or Will It Come Roaring Back In A Creative Way?

In the Western world churches are shrinking.  A new survey by the Pew Research Center shows that Millennials (American’s in their twenties) are increasingly turning away from religion.  More and more writers and experts are saying that America is now “post-Christian.”  Is Christianity really dying out in the Western world?

I recently picked up a book from the freebie bin at McKay Bookstore in Nashville and read where Mike Bickle said that the Lord spoke these words to him a few years ago: “I will change the understanding and expression of Christianity in the earth in one generation.” About three years ago a sister at The Salvation Army Berry Street was told that we are a “prototype.”  Yet, she didn’t know what the word meant: “A preliminary model of something.”  There are many prototypes of this coming expression of Christianity being birthed around the world (often called simple church, organic church, non-church, or participatory church).

What is being modeling at Berry Street and many other places is not something new; it is as old as The New Testament.   It is biblical but has been widely ignored.  It is based on I Corinthians 14:26 — which teaches that every member of the church is allowed to openly share and do in church meetings what God puts on her/his heart.

Does this Scripture give a valid alternative for church meetings?  It may sound feasible in the New Testament, but will it actually work in real life?  Search: Beyond Church Ekklesia.

An Ancient Way To Change Your Life (Almost Unknown In The 21st Century)

There is an ancient way to change your life that was first developed and used in the Middle East in the early Fourth Century.  It produced amazing results and helped to start a movement in the Roman Empire and beyond.

Amazingly, this technique, is almost unknown in the 21st Century.  It is simple, but powerful.  It is explained in this video:  Begin To Change Your Life In 3 1/2 Minutes With The Jesus Prayer.

New Poll Shows More Millennials Doubt God

A new poll by the Pew Research Center has found that doubts about the existence of God have increased by 15 points during the past 5 years among Millennials, Americans 30 and under.  Here’s a link to the survey: http://www.pewforum.org/Age/Religion-Among-the-Millennials.aspx

However, when God shows out, doubt goes out.  Experience God with us at Nashville’s most unique church where people show and tell what the living God has done.

There is no human program.  Instead people are prompted by the Spirit to share words of encouragement, prayers, testimonies, prayer requests, concerns, insights, and gifts of the Spirit.  It is an amazing thing to see God’s order spontaneously come forth as what is shared blends into a beautiful, heart-moving meeting.

Experience this for yourself and watch your doubt leave out:  Thurs. nights @ 6:30 and Sun. mornings @ 10:45 at The Salvation Army Berry Street, 225 Berry St., Nashville, 37207.

What You Know Vs. The Love You Show

Spiritual growth isn’t about how much information concerning God that you know.  It’s about how much of God’s love that you show and how much you allow the Holy Spirit to flow.

Spiritual growth isn’t about how much theological and/or religious knowledge that you accumulate.  It’s about how much you acknowledge God by surrendering to and obeying His voice.

The way to grow is not to intellectually know.  It’s easy to have lots of Biblical knowledge, but little (or no) spiritual life.

The way to grow is to go and act on what you know.  Show God’s love to everyone you encounter.  Let the Holy Spirit’s flow direct your thoughts, your emotions, and your behaviors until you glow with the glory of God.

Don’t Let The Myth Of The Material Make You Miss Life’s Most Meaningful Reality . . .

It would be a shame to go through life caught in the myth of the material and miss out on the most amazing reality on Earth.  Yet many people do.

We think we have “permanent housing” but that is a myth.  Everything in the physical world is temporary.  It will all pass away.  Our bodies and every material thing around us are on their way to demise and/or decay.  “Ashes to ashes, dust to dust.”

However, the greatest things in life are non-material — love, justice, consciousness, intelligence, compassion, conscience, reasoning, forgiveness, joy, faith, comprehension, understanding, soul, reflection, mercy, inspiration, peace, thoughts, kindness, our human spirit.

So what is the greatest reality on Earth?  It’s not science which consists of human observation and wisdom; not what we so proudly call “facts.”

The greatest reality is the living God (not religion, or theology, or creed, or church, or the Bible).  God is more real than the air we breathe.  He is like the windshield in our car.  As we drive through our life, we see everything in front of us through God, yet many people don’t even notice His presence in front of them and many deny Him by the way they live and/or with their words.

Don’t miss life’s greatest reality.  Here’s a video of my testimony of how I encountered the living God:

God Still Makes Change That Sets The Captives Free

Where did that strange question come from as I sat bored in church one morning?  “If you were born a Hindu, what would you be today?”

Here’s my testimony.  God still makes change that sets the captives free.  Hearing God’s Voice Made Me An Agnostic . . .

God is changing people’s lives at The Salvation Army Berry Street, a nontraditional, interactive church in East Nashville.  Come and see God make change on Sunday mornings at 10:45 and Thursday nights at 6:30 at 225 Berry St., 37207.

Do You Know God?

Do you know God?  Not religion or church or the Bible or prayer or worship or doctrine or Footprints In The Sand; but is the Creator, Himself, real and alive in your heart?

Are you captivated by God’s majesty and glory.  Are you overwhelmed by His beauty?  Does God talk to you, stir your heart, and inspire you to passionately seek His presence? Does He show you your sins and urge you to stop them?

Is God’s fire flaming in your chest?
