Does a dash of devotion do a living, omnipresent God justice? Doesn’t a living, present God deserve more than that? Does He who made us not have a right to 24/7/365 devotion — to an ongoing, continual expression of our heart-felt love and adoration to Him? Paul of Tarsus put it this way: “Pray without ceasing.”

No One Searches For Insignificance

Would you like for your life to be meaningless?  Of course not.  And you’re not alone.  No one searches for insignificance.  It is a universal human desire to find some sense of purpose in life.

If we were the mere product of materialistic evolution (as most science textbooks insist), why would any person want meaning?  There is no evolutionary reason why people should desire a sense of purpose.

Animals do fine without a need for significance.  However, humans flounder when they feel they have no purpose or significance.  Why is that?

There is no natural reason.  Therefore our need for meaning must be supernatural.  The human need for significance is proof of an intelligence that exists beyond nature that people for millennia have called God.

Questions A Reporter Could Ask Mitt Romney About Mormonism

Recently on ABC News, Mitt Romney told Diane Sawyer that he would be glad to answer questions about his Mormon faith.  Here are some questions about Mormonism that Dianne (or other reporters) could ask him:

* Did your God make all the stars, all the planets, and everything that exists anywhere?

* What books do you believe to be equal to the Bible? Why?

* What are “celestial wives”?  How many do you have?

* Does God have wives?

* Does God have a physical body or is He a spirit?

* How does God bring forth the spirits of new human beings?  Does he create them or procreate them?

* Was Jesus Christ conceived by a physical act between God and Mary?

* Will a faithful male Mormon become the God of his own planet after his death?

* Was your Heavenly Father a man before He became God?

* Are all churches, except the Mormon church, wrong in what they believe about God?

* Have you taken secret oaths and/or engaged in secret activities in a Mormon Temple?

Materialistic Evolutionists Are Missing Out On Mighty Self-Improvement Methods

Materialistic evolutionists are missing out on some of the most effective self-improvement methods in existence.  Why?  Because they have chosen to categorically eliminate the entire area of spirituality from their life and from their consideration.

Materialistic evolutionists are people who have chosen to believe that the Universe, the stars and planets, and all the life forms on Earth, came into being by an unaided process of evolution — that nothing exists but physical reality.

By choosing this belief system, they cut themselves off from the amazing wealth of spiritual knowledge and experience that the human race has accumulated.

For example, materialistic evolutionists can’t experience the hope of prayer, because they believe that there is no one to pray to.   They can’t experience the inner peace that comes from God’s “still, small voice,” because in their faith-system, there is no God to speak.

Materialistic evolutionists are unable to receive the powerful, personal transformation that comes through surrender to the Higher Power, that Alcoholics Anonymous has used to help millions of people get free from various habits and addictions.

They can’t experience the ecstasy of spiritual experience that has been enjoyed by untold millions of people around the globe.  And they can’t experience the wonderful cleansing and freedom from guilt that comes from God’s forgiveness.

I’ve often wondered why anyone would voluntary want to forgo the spiritual methodologies that have lifted humanity to the highest heights.  I think many people confuse spiritual reality with religious manipulation and throw them both out together.  Sad.

Spiritual reality operates independently of organized religion.  The truth is:  both religion and materialistic evolution shut down genuine spirituality.

Is your belief system shutting you off from the life-transforming power of God?  If so, are you okay with missing out on life’s most glorious reality?

Just How Real Is Jesus?

Before the manifestation of matter, when there were no waves or particles; no electrons, protons, or neutrons; no light or sound; no nature or natural laws; Jesus was.  Before the stars were scattered across the expanse of space, Jesus was. The history of the universe is His story — the big bang of creation was His doing.

And now, as I write, Jesus is here.  I feel His Presence, not with faulty human senses or emotions, but with an awareness that transcends the abilities of my body and mind.

If Jesus suddenly appeared in front of me in a physical body, He would be no more present than He is now with me and, yes, with you (wherever you are reading this).  But if He appeared physically with me and with you, and we could touch Him like His disciples touched His risen and living body, He would be no more present with us than He already is.  In the unawareness of our self-focused lives, we frequently fail to see, sense, feel, perceive, the omnipresent Christ.

That’s why we are said to be in blindness.  We grope in the dark while the Light is shinning brightly, more real than the sun — more dazzling.  Living in the Presence of Jesus we look the other way and explain Him away with without proof; using theories and intellectual constructs to justify our desire to freely follow our opinions, our whims, our thoughts, and our cravings.  But Christ remains — our denial doesn’t delete Him.

And when we come to die and our body begins to decay and fade away, Christ still is.  “One life, will soon be past.  Only what’s done for Christ will last.”

“Jesus Christ, the same, yesterday, today, and forever.”  Open our eyes, Lord, so that we can be fully aware of You and not allow our gift of consciousness to be unconscious of the greatest reality — Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God — at whose Name “every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.”

The Spirit Of Prophecy Is Still Working In God’s People

Easter’s over — the marketing hype; the retail rituals of buying baskets, bunnies, cards and clothes; and the religious rites.  Easter candy’s cheap — 50%, 75%, or even 90% off now.  We’ve moved on . . . but Jesus Christ still roars.  Can you hear Him?

“I’m alive and present with you!  Not for a holiday, but forever!  Everyday that you live, I’m calling your name; seeking a relationship with you the way a poor woman searches for her misplaced money.”

“Stop running away, pretending I’m not relevant in a texting and tablet world.  Who invented instant communication?  Not smartphones — Me!  I don’t message you in the palm of your hand — My voice roars inside of you — in your heart and in your mind!  (I am The Voice!)”

“It takes great effort not to hear Me, you have to drown Me out.  I am continually spraying you with conscience, conviction, inspiration, flashes of insight, the appreciation of beauty.  I’ve given you intellect, surrounded you with mysterious complexity, breathed into you life, displayed love and sacrifice.”

“Yet you think I’m hiding — distant or non-existent.  Hogwash!  You’re surrounded by Me the way a fish is surrounded by water.  Why won’t you hear?  Why won’t you see?  Why won’t you follow and obey Me every moment of every day?”

Jesus Culture In Nashville — Not A Concert But A Passionate Worship Experience

It looked like a concert, but it wasn’t.  Several thousand people (mostly under 30) gathered last night at the Curb Event Center at Belmont University in Nashville to worship with the band, Jesus Culture.

With the energy of a rock concert, the crowd passionately expressed unrelenting praise and worship to Jesus; standing, waving, dancing, swaying, singing, and shouting for more than two hours.  The presence of the Holy Spirit was almost tangible.  Across the arena faces were glowing with the ecstasy of His light.

The songs were not just sung about Jesus — they were sung directly to Him (like He was in the room — which He was).  It was free-flowing and spontaneous, beyond the realm of human agenda and control.

However, after about two hours, there was a shift.  People were told to sit down (which they did, suddenly shifting from an active role to a passive one) while someone talked for quite a while.

At that point there was a very noticeable change in the atmosphere.  There was a visible shift in the meeting from God’s leadership to human leadership and the sense of God’s Presence began to fade.  Spontaneity shut down.  The energy level fell drastically. I saw many people yawn.

Eventually they shifted back to a God focus, but it seemed like the Presence of God never got back to the same level as it was before the talk.

The first two hours of the gathering amazingly demonstrated, beyond words, how the real Presence of God can come in and control a meeting.  Perhaps the talk was an unnecessary diversion of attention away from actively experiencing Christ to theorizing about Him.

It is not information that transforms people, but the Presence and control of the living Christ.  We know plenty of information about Christ and the Bible, yet we often lack His ongoing, transforming Presence.  We know how to experience Jesus occasionally, but perhaps we don’t know how to live in His Presence,  overcome with awe of Him 24/7.

Can Christian gatherings “work” without a talk or sermon?  Yes! Christ, Himself, will teach, not through one human directing a meeting, but through many people openly and freely sharing what God tells them to. (See I Corinthians 14:26).  We just need to give Christ a chance to be the one in charge.

Every Sunday morning in Nashville a group of believers gather with the desire to let Jesus run things with as little human agenda and human control as possible.  The results?  Jesus shows up.  Come and see for yourself what Christ can do when allowed the freedom to run a meeting — gathering at The Salvation Army Berry Street, 225 Berry St., Nashville, 37207.

Tim Tebow, Jeremy Lin, & Now Bubba Watson — W.G.U.T.? (What’s God Up To?)

Bubba Watson was the surprise winner of the Masters’ Tournament on Easter Sunday.  After winning the green jacket, he said:  “I’d like to first thank Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior . . .”  Just before that moment, his Masters’ speech was interrupted by ESPN, but the news about Bubba glorifying Jesus still got out.

The golf world considers Bubba to be unconventional because he has never had a golf lesson and because he is an outspoken follower of Jesus Christ.  To quote Bubba:  “The Bible says if you’re trying to be Christ-like, it doesn’t matter what others say, you don’t need to worry about that. I knew if it was God’s plan for me to be on the PGA tour He would help me do it. It’s been working out so far and it will until He has a different plan for me. I just need to believe in Him.”

So W.G.U.T.?  (What’s God Up To?)  Tim Tebow unexpectedly took the Denver Broncos to the NFL Playoffs, giving God the glory all the way.  Then Jeremy Lin comes off the bench to lead the New York Nicks to a series of victories while openly praising God, and now Bubba Watson wins the Masters’.

Is this more than coincidence?  Is God speaking to America and the world?  (Lin is hugely popular in China.)

Perhaps we should get quiet and listen to the voice of God.  He is still speaking and He wants to talk to you!  If you are a believer God wants you to follow the examples of these athletes by lovingly, courageously, and openly sharing your faith.  Bubba uses Twitter to share His faith, so why don’t you use Twitter, Facebook, and other social media to share yours?

If you are a non-believer, God wants you to personally know Christ and to follow and obey Him every day.  It takes lots of courage, but with Christ you can overcome the things that are holding you in bondage and begin to experience joy, forgiveness, peace, and freedom in your life.

Need help?  Come and hear the stories of transformed people at The Salvation Army Berry Street in Nashville where people show and tell what God has done:  Thursday nights @ 6:30 & Sunday mornings @ 10:45 — 225 Berry St., 37207.

Jesus Christ — Dead Or Alive?

Easter celebrations are over — the traditions, the religious ceremonies, the decorations, the egg hunts, the dress-up, the family gatherings, the greeting cards, the candy.  So what do you do after Easter?  Here are two choices:

1)  You can send the resurrected Jesus to jail — out of sight, out of mind.  You can lock Him up — box Him in — with your agenda, your plans, your program, your will, your choices.  You can ignore the risen Jesus and live your life as if He is dead and buried — at least until next Easter.  Or . . .

2)  You can hit the Easter trail and daily follow and obey the risen Christ, no matter what the cost.  You can listen to Him and then do whatever He tells you to.

If you jail Jesus in an after-Easter box, you are in for yet another year of the same ole same ole.  How’s that sound to you?

However, if you aggressively follow the resurrection road, the living Jesus will lead you into an amazing year of excitement, meaning, purpose and adventure?  (If you don’t believe me, read about it in the Book of Acts where the earliest believers follow the Easter trail.)

Follow the resurrection road with us at The Salvation Army Berry Street.  We meet with no program or agenda.  We turn our gatherings over to the resurrected Jesus and let Him directly lead our meetings.  The results?  Amazing!

Come see for yourself:  Sundays @ 10:45 am. & Thursdays @ 6:30 pm. — 225 Berry St., Nashville, 37207.

A rock that rolled — an empty tomb — angels — a dead Man walking — Jesus risen to live forever, seeking to show Himself to you — May you have an Easter encounter with Him today; a glorious resurrection relevation. Happy Easter.
